Zildjian 20-Inch A Custom Sizzle Ride Cymbal Review

(More customer reviews)If you've never played on a sizzle before it takes some getting used to because of the sustain. However, it is an essential sound in R&B and some jazz, especially for slower tempo using triplets.
This particular model sounds identical to my 30+ year old Avedis Zildjian 20" - even the sustain is the same. Do not expect a lot of definition from this (or any other sizzle) because they were designed for a drawn out washy sound with slightly less than moderate definition.
If you're unsure about getting a sizzle, a great compromise is the 19" Zildjian Armand Signature Ride (ASIN B0002GFNF4). That cymbal has a three-rivet cluster near the edge, but has higher definition and less sustain and wash. I have both the Armand and regular sizzle models, so there is a difference in tone and texture these cymbals produce.

Zildjian 21-Inch Sweet Ride Cymbal Review

(More customer reviews)This is a classic ride, designed for jazz, and is nearly identical to my circa late 60s Avedis Zildjian 22" ride in sound.
The overtones are complex and fed by a seemingly unending sustain. This cymbal would not fit into a rock groove, but shines with traditional jazz. Listen to some of Joe Morello's work with the Dave Brubeck Quartet and you'll get a good sense of what this cymbal sounds like.
I've played this cymbal on sets and I'm tempted to sell my precious 22" ride and get one of these, but the older Avedis just seems to improve with age, so I won't.
As a side note, while I dearly love this cymbal, my absolute favorite ride is the 19" Zildjian Armand Signature Ride (ASIN B0002GFNF4). If you are considering this cymbal give the Armand Signature a look (and play) first before making a final decision.

(More customer reviews)For years, i had the A Custom Ping. This is like the ping ride after a Red Bull. It's louder, a little darker (tone) with killer stick definition and just the right amount of undertones (wash). Highly recommended.
