Dean Edge 6 String Bass Trans Amberburst Review

(More customer reviews)I love my Dean Edge 6. But I can't play it. And I can't get strings for it.
It's a beautiful instrument. The fit and finish is quite good for the price. It sounds great.
An accomplished bassist recommended that I get a six string. That was a HUGE mistake. This bass is a monster, and is no good for learning to play.
The biggest problem, however, is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to get strings for this thing. All of the "Extra Long Scale" strings that I have tried begin to taper just shy of the nut. I contacted Dean and they told me that they string the bass with bulk D'Addario strings and that they couldn't recommend any set that I could buy. They suggested that I visit the nearest dealer . . . 600 miles away.
So, the instrument is terrific, Dean's customer service is WORTHLESS.

(More customer reviews)I've owned a lot of guitars through the past 25 years, including a couple of American Standard Fender Strats, a couple of Japanese-made Fender Strats, and even a strat-style Ibanez guitar (which I still own). Despite the expense of the American Standards, they never seemed to sound as good or play as easily as the hype would suggest. The Japanese ones sounded good---especially the 50s and 60s replicas---but the small frets made it hard to keep chords fretted across all six strings and could sometimes make soloing a tad more haphazzard. Despite not having had a Fender in my collection for the past ten years, I got the itch to get another while deployed in Afghanistan. The 499 cost seemed good-- way less than the American standard and at a price point that wouldn't make my wife strangle me in anger on my return home. I unpacked this as soon as I got home and let me tell you that it is simply the best playing and sounding guitar I have ever owned, bar none---better even than the Les Paul Ive owned for 20 years and my very nice Ibanez that I've owned for 15 years. The neck and string action are as perfect as I have ever played. The pickups seem incredibly nuanced, but will get slight electrical noise from lighting or TVs if in the single coil positions. Quality of construction, paint, and overall appearance are every bit as good as the American Standards. I really can't put my finger on what specifically makes this guitar so good---awesome construction, medium jumbo frets, that "strat tone" done right???---but take my word for it, this guitar is incredible. After 30 years of playing I am a good enough guitarist to know quality and playability from glam crap. Don't spend 1000+ bucks when you don't have to!!! This guitar will stay with me for the rest of my life (or until it isn't cool for an old fart to be playing Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Dire Straits, and Hendrix songs anymore.)

Seagull Performer CW Flame Maple HG QI Guitar Review

(More customer reviews)When compared to a Martin, Yamaha, or an Ibanez in the price range it is almost an insult that they are in the same room. These guitars, as well as other Canadian Godins, are built with quality in mind, solid with excellent tones. This model is quiet clearly a hand crafted gem. I purchased the instrument with a Roland Street Cube Amplifier that was well priced and had a great selection of reverb, echoes and 2 channel capabilities all with the ability to play on the street unplugged for more than 10 hours. I would highly recommend this guitar, and the price to value ratio place it well within the five-star rating I am giving it. Remember to make sure you keep it out of extremes in cold or hot temps and that you give it a little humidity.

Now, the classic look of the "plain" Maple top is available to go with the classic Les Paul Sound. This understated look is preferred by many Les Paul fanatics. Randall RX35DM 35-Watt Guitar Combo Amp Review

(More customer reviews)This was my second amp, first being a bare to the bone First Act amp with nothing on it. This amp was DEFINENTLY an improvement. It was well worth the money, gives a nice clean sound when you need one, and also an adjustable distortion. Its effects are nice, but I barely use them. It's kinda big, but it's easily portable. If this one broke, I wouldn't mind having to replace it. It is a very good amp, and I highly recommend it to a somewhere between beginner and intermediate level guitar player. When I use the amp for practice, I don't normally put the volume level anywhere past 2, it can get LOUD!

Crate Blackheart BH15H Handsome Devil Guitar Amp Head, 15W All Tube with Attitude Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this along with the matching 12" cab and I do not regret it one bit. You can get a sparkling clean that puts a lot of higher wattage amps to shame and the gain creeps up on old metal territory (Sabbath and Judas Priest.) If you want a modern metal shred machine, you'll need a pedal, but this amp out and out rocks with enough decibels to make the neighbors call the cops. Beautiful natural distortion with a TON (I got a lot of useful sounds) of variation in tone. It's a smidge boomy on the bottom, but I like that and it can easily be tamed by the EQ or an EQ pedal. Very nice for classic rock like Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and Aerosmith. It also does a very convincing Cream (crank the gain all the way on roll back your guitar tone-- it has that thick, creamy, fuzzy distortion with plenty of sustain and clarity for days.) Great for blues too.
If you are looking for a smaller wattage amp that really has character, I would highly recommend the Handsome Devil head.
