(More customer reviews)I am a novice runner and I can't stand running without water, even though I only run a short distance (2-2.5 miles right now). I generally have carried water with me to solve this, but I thought I would look for a pack that I could attach it to me instead. I saw from the other reviews some people said the pack bounces too much for them, but I thought I'd get it and give it a try.
For running, I found that if you cinch the pack fairly tight, it doesn't move too badly, but you can feel the weight of it shifting up and down on your back and I deemed this too annoying to run with. I think this would be a very personal thing, it didn't bounce enough that you really couldn't run with it, I'm sure it wouldn't bother some.
The pack is very well made, I'm very pleased with the craftmanship, the bottle stays in the pouch very securely. With the pack on, the water bottle sits in the small of your back and the pouch rests over the front of your left hip. There are elastic loops by the buckle to secure the extra webbing from the belt. The pouch is large enough to hold my large smartphone cell phone, plus a luna bar or two and some other things. However, I wore this while hiking and found that with the pouch full, I kept hitting it with my arm during my natural walking/hiking motions. I don't think this would be a problem running (though I didn't try it), because I naturally hold my arms at more of a 90 degree angle while running, but while hiking or walking I swing it past the pouch and would hit it. I solved this by just keeping the cell phone in the pouch and with that it was empty enough that it wasn't a problem.
I'm not a big fan of the bottle. The spout is a rubber nipple which you can pull in or out. In order to drink you have to kind of bite down on it. I find myself frustrated because as I try to manipulate it to get enough water out, I feel that I have to kink it to the side, but then sometimes it will pop back in, etc. Also, I am very sensitive to the taste of water, so this might not bother most (I can't for example drink out of metal containers), but I could taste the rubber in the water. Also, the bottle leaked from the side of the cap unless I really cranked it on as hard as I could.
Overall, I'm not displeased with the product. It's well made and I will use it for hiking and walking. However, I think having the pouch further in the front would be preferred, due to the interference with my arm swing, and I am not a fan of the bottle design.
