(More customer reviews)This bass is loaded to the max,and an excellant reproduction of the bass that Getty Lee (RUSH) is known for using live and in the recording studio. What I might add is a pretty good price for such quality.
This FENDER JAZZ bass has a 1 piece maple neck with black binding and black rectangular fret markers.
20 medium jumbo frets with a 9.50''neck radius.
2 Vintage jazz bass single coil pick ups and a vintage Leo Quan Bad Ass II Bridge.
This also Boasts an alder body and vintage 70's stamped open gear tuning machines.
This bass was a favorite among musicians for many reasons. quality workmanship, great tone sparkle and these were very road worthy, able to widthstand the abuse that comes with being a touring band.
I would suggest trying this bass out even if you dont play a Fender.

I purchased a Rogue 5 string bass for $100 and it had reasonable quality and good setup. No excuse for this. Contacted Washburn and they basically said I should pay to have the frets fixed...right.

(More customer reviews)This is the by far the best pickup set I have ever seen or played. The ease of installation is great. I had to rout out some of my body and had to solder the plug in jack, but it was easy (I am mechanically inclined so that helped). The sound is awesome, I love the 3 position switch, seperate volumes for each pickup and the tone. You can play both pickups and then adjust the volume so that you get more from one pickup or the other and then adjust the tone as you see fit. Possibility's are endless. My Fender HSS is a totally different and 100% better looking and sounding guitar. I went to Musicians' Friend and found the matching cover for the back of the my guitar. My Strat is Vintage Red Wind so this looks awesome on it.......I wish that I could find a black whammy bar to match the pickups and the look would be complete......Great job EMG and thanks to Amazon.com I saved over 20 bucks compared to Musician's Friend and it was delivered to my front door in about 5 days. Awesome deal.......

Hofner Icon Series Vintage Violin Bass, Transparent Black Review

I fell in like with the look of the Hofner Icon at the local Guitar Center and bought it. After a month of practice, lessons, and research, I happened upon a Hofner 500/1 vintage '63 reissue violin bass (hand made in Germany) at a hole-in-the wall music shop in downtown Chicago and fell in LOVE with it and it's amazing flatwound strings! I dropped nearly $2,000 and brought this beautiful instrument (such high quality that it should qualify as a piece of furniture) and returned my Icon with no regrets.
I may actually purchase another Icon soon and throw some flatwound strings (Hofners from North Coast Music) and use it for my travel bass when on vacation.
Here's what you need to know about the available Hofner basses:
ICON ($400ish)
-Made in China with Chinese electronics that can be quirky
-Fit and finish is adequate for the price point
-Regular roundwound strings with some fret buzz depending on setup
-Hollow body
-A pain in the butt getting a case sometimes! Go EBay or Amazon!
-Available in lefty (often with a case oddly)
CONTEMPORARY ($700ish)
-Made in China with German electronics
-Fit and finish adequate...slightly better than the Icon
-Has regular roundwound strings

(More customer reviews)Gibson makes great guitars. Their lower end Epiphone brand has a similar look and sound for a substantially lower price.
This bass is great for beginner/intermediate players and sounds great. You will need a decent sized amp to get a good bass tone. The transparent black is nice looking with a wavy look. The strings that it comes with are not bad, but I changed them after a few weeks. The fretboard is okay, nothing fancy, but the guitar is only $299. At this price range, you are getting good quality and the instrument looks really good. I would recommend playing one at a local guitar store first if possible to make sure it feels and sounds right. You should expect to pay about the same amount on an amp or more if you will playing in a band.

Have owned one for over 13 years. Electronics are 1st rate, lots of Range, Play Jazz, Country or Pop and Slap. Stays in tune very well. The balance is good when standing or sitting. Craftsmanship and Finish are second to None. Frets easy and the sustain is excellent. Good pricing for a Made In California USA instrument.
No problems after 13 years of playing.while the ABS plastic case is good, It will warp if left in direct sun light, even for a few minutes.

When I want to practice it's good to use if I don't have an amp since it's a hollow body. The minor down side is that it feels cheap and fragile, but it doesn't really bother me.
All in all, I love this bass!

I have been playing for about six years now and never thought I would buy a Squier. I have a Highway 1 jazz bass that no other bass has come close to in terms of comfort, playability, and sound until now. I really lovethe p-bass tone and I would not be able to guess that this was a squier if you covered up the word squier on the headstock. My only gripe is a minor one, I am used to the satin finish on my Highway 1 so the thicker gloss on the neck of the Squier took a little getting used to. This is an incredible bass. Compared to the cheaper Squiers this thing blows them out of the water. My dad even said I was stupid for getting a Squier, then he played it and was blown away by the quality of this fine instrument. I cannot say enough good things about this instrument. If you are going to buy a p-bass, are looking for quality at a low price, this is what you need.

Just had mine setup for the first time - I've had it about 3 months - and it only required some minor truss tightening - also replaced the strings - since I'd worn out the initial set. This is a wonderful instrument - at a very reasonable price.

Instead of always having to plug in my electric and move equipment from room to room I decided on a acoustic bass. I can play with the background music and still hear myself. It was a little bigger then I expected. The sound is spongey but very clear. When you plug in if you don't have a processor the on board tone controls work great. The strings have a little more space between them compared to an electric and that took a little getting used to. The on board tuner is accurate. As far as the body, neck, and overall product I have no complaints. I love this guitar and am so happy I bought it.

While testing one, I found myself spending too much time trying to keep it in a comfortable position for me to play it. When I'm playing, I want to focus on the groove, on hitting the difficult notes perfectly, laying down the riffs, not keeping my instrument in balance and not having to adjust the neck strap because it's cutting off the circulation in my neck. At a lower price, I might overlook these issues, but if I did I would more than likely regret it.
