Kala Solid Acacia Tenor Ukulele Review

This is a nice sounding ukulele from Kala. Intonation is spot on all the way up the neck. Looks beautiful, too, especially the slotted head stock. My only complaint with Kala (and Lanikai) is the neck could be a little wider, at least for my hands. And though the sound is nice and bright, mine at least lacks the warmer, deeper sound of other ukes. Granted, my Kamakas have a much warmer, deeper sound, but they cost several hundred dollars more. Maybe it's just me, but I think the Kala solid mahogany series sound nicer. I may try to change the strings on my Kala Acacia uke. Many seem to do that with this model. This is still a nice ukulele though. I don't regret getting it. I would recommend trying one out in a music store first, if you have one nearby.

Also called the Mimosa or Shower Tree, these tropical trees are cousins of the Hawaiian Koa tree. They have gorgeous striped patterns of light and dark brown and have a deep colorful tone that match their visual beauty. These solid wood ukes come sized in Soprano, Concert and custom Tenor with a slotted-headstock. They are trimmed with rosewood edge binding and classic herringbone purfling. Custom position markers accent the fretboard. The Soprano has classic friction style tuners. The Concert comes with chrome die-cast tuners with black buttons and the Tenor has vintage geared chrome tuners. The ukes come with a rosewood fingerboard and bridge and an ebony nut and saddle. *17 Tenor Scale (Distance from Nut to Saddle)26-3/8 Overall body length11-3/4 Body length 6-3/4 Upper Bout 9 Lower Bout 5-1/4 Waist 2-1/2 TO 3-1/8 Arched-Back Body depth 1-3/8 At Nut All Solid Acacia top, back and sides 19 Silver-Nickel FretsCustom vine fret position Marks at 5th,7th,10th and 12th frets on neck and top of fingerboardSlotted HeadstockMulti-Layered Headstock cap with carved Kala logoGrover Vintage Chrome TunersPREMIUM AQUILA NYLGUT STRINGS

A Christmas present for my son, so he's only used it for a couple of days. Has a nice rich tone. Low string keeps going out of tune so we'll see if that corrects itself with use.

Kala Curly Mango Tenor Ukulele Review

Kala Curly Mango Tenor Ukulele

I bought my Kala Mango Uke about 2 years ago, and i'ts still my favorite of all the instruments that i own.
Every aspect of the uke is asthetically pleasing, from the beautiful color of the wood, to the gold plated gear tuners and pink pearloid tuning knobs.
What is most striking about it, of course is the sound. It has an extremely bright, forward sound which includes beautiful ringing high notes and deep bass notes.
I've only hooked it up to an amp a couple of times, and it works well, but it is such a loud uke, that i perfer to play without.
Great Buy!

Lanikai SM-T Custom Series Spalted Mango Tenor Ukulele Review

Lanikai SM-T Custom Series Spalted Mango Tenor Ukulele
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love this ukulele! The spalted mango wood is quite striking, as is the the abalone inlay around the soundhole and top edge binding. The tone is wonderful. The action just right. The tuning pegs work very well. One word of warning, and this applies to all wood instruments like guitars, violins, etc: I would advise buying a case and storing the ukulele in it when not being played. Wood, especially the thin woods used in an instrument of this type, are very susceptible to low-humidity conditions. If you live in a dry climate, or experience cold, dry winters, you really do need to keep the instrument humidified, and that is best done with an in-case humidifier. If you don't, you run the risk of cracks in the wood as it dries out. And I learned this the hard way. Guitar or ukulele humidifiers are pretty inexpensive. There are even instructions online for making them.

The new Spalted Mango Series ukuleles illustrate Lanikai's spirit of experimentation by bringing exiting new developments to the ukulele world. SM ukuleles offer exquisite beauty and a very mellow tone, thanks to their solid spalted mango construction. Spalted mango has a unique tonal characteristic that has the midrange of mahogany but the roundness of spruce. The difficulties in crafting an instrument with spalted woods are greatly outweighed by the resulting tone and striking appearance. The flame mahogany neck adds to the stability and comfort of this exquisite instrument. Rounded off with the gold vintage style tuners this ukulele is a classic in the making. If you have never played ukulele before get ready for a world of fun. The ukulele is an addicting instrument that can and will be taken everywhere. The standard tuning on a Soprano, Concert, and Tenor ukulele is GBEA, and on a Baritone DGBE. If you can play one ukulele you can play them all! Pick up a Lanikai today and see why people are saying Lanikai Makes Me Happy! Lanikai CK-TEQ Tenor Curly Koa Acoustic Electric Ukulele Review

It's not often you find a KOA ukulele at such a great price. This ukulele has a beautiful tone and sounds fantastic amped! I own four ukuleles now and this one is by far my favorite. Lanikai, although made in china, makes outstanding ukuleles. When I first got it, it made a buzzing sound when strumming loud. This is an easy fix. There was a wire resting up against the soundboard. I just reached into the sound hole and adjusted the wire so it was no longer resting on the soundboard. As a result, the best ukulele ever! The tuning pegs are phenomenal. The cutaway design really helps when playing the higher frets. To top it all off, this ukulele looks fantastic. If you are considering a tenor ukulele to add to your ukulele family, I highly recommend this one.

Fender Ukulele Pa'ina Solid Mahogany, Natural Review

Fender Ukulele Pa'ina Solid Mahogany, Natural
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I was looking for a new tenor uke I wasn't planning to purchase this one at all. I had my sights set on another, cheaper model but I when I went into a store called "The Guitar Shop" and saw it, it immediately began to persuade me to buy it. It was probably the price that was the biggest factor. I know how much it is online and the store was selling it for $253CDN. I couldn't pass that up.
The Pros: It sounds really, really nice. The strings that come with it are pretty good (Aquila) and I didn't have to buy new ones. The colour and feel of the uke are also quite nice but I do kind of like the mid-range Fender better style-wise.
The Cons: I've had major problems with this uke but after they were all fixed it finally became something I liked. Within the first month it had become cracked in three points on the back. I hadn't moved it in and out of the cold and although I don't have a humidifier, kept it in an environment that wasn't too dry. My other ukes and guitars are just fine but this one cracked. Also within the first two months the built-in pickup broke. I didn't ever use it but it became loose and the wires inside had disconnected. I was so frustrated.
Eventually I got it all fixed and haven't had a problem since. So for now, I'm loving it. Only time will tell if more is to happen.
I hear that the neck may start cracking where it meets the body. It is Fender's first go with ukes. Hopefully they will release a better made line in the future that sounds just as good.

Fender brings you the authentic sound of the Hawaiian Islands with its first-ever series of ukulele models.Ukuleles are enjoying renewed popularity, with exquisite sounds and designs that are a far cry from mere musical toys. Originally built by Portuguese immigrants to the Hawaiian Islands in the 1880s, the small guitar-like instruments produced a lilting sound that instantly evoked the lush South Pacific atmosphere of their island homeland.Fender's three new tenor-style ukulele models offer finely crafted sound and construction; they too instantly evoke the sound and spirit of Hawaii, with a dash of traditional Fender mojo for good measure-each one features the distinctive Fender Telecaster guitar headstock shape, unique body shapes and bracing patterns designed exclusively for Fender and a Fender ukulele gig bag to get you started. This one is the Fender Ukulele Pa'ina, a top-line model gets its name from the Hawaiian word for party. It's made of solid mahogany, with a satin finish and passive electronics that let you plug it in and turn it up at the next luau. Mahalo!
