(More customer reviews)This is a nice sounding ukulele from Kala. Intonation is spot on all the way up the neck. Looks beautiful, too, especially the slotted head stock. My only complaint with Kala (and Lanikai) is the neck could be a little wider, at least for my hands. And though the sound is nice and bright, mine at least lacks the warmer, deeper sound of other ukes. Granted, my Kamakas have a much warmer, deeper sound, but they cost several hundred dollars more. Maybe it's just me, but I think the Kala solid mahogany series sound nicer. I may try to change the strings on my Kala Acacia uke. Many seem to do that with this model. This is still a nice ukulele though. I don't regret getting it. I would recommend trying one out in a music store first, if you have one nearby.

Kala Solid Acacia Soprano Ukulele Review

(More customer reviews)It was with great anticipation that I awaited this little soprano's arrival as I needed a gift for my wife for our 38th wedding anniversary.
With all of the great reviews on Kala Ukuleles, I had to try their soprano.
As far as the looks go, although not the Koa looking one in the picture, the one that arrived was still nice.
This is a simply made instrument and that's to be expected as it is not on the same build or cost level as a Kamaka, Ko'olau or Pono.
But that in no way takes anything away from this ukulele!
The fingerboard is nicely done especially the nickel silver fretwork. There are no fret ends sticking up and they are nicely rounded at their ends.
After tightening the screws on the end of the friction tuners the soprano stayed in tune perfectly. Do not over tighten these screws! Tighten only in small increments.
The intonation was great. The neck is very comfortable with no surprises. Bar chords are easily played with a nice rolled edge on the fingerboard.
The real gem, in this instrument, is the sound quality! It has excellent projection with the traditional "Bark" when bouncing around on the strings playing chords.
Fingerpicking produces very clear and melodic notes! Fretting is also effortless.
This little instrument was singing to me when I was taking the wrapper off, so I knew it was going to sound great!
I love playing it and my wife loves her gift!

Kala Solid Acacia Concert Ukulele Review

(More customer reviews)This instrument is one of of Kala's top of the line concert ukuleles. I've had a few other Kala's and they're all pretty good. The intonation is no better than their lesser models, which is fair. It's real pretty though. I bought it used, knowing it was a very new model, so it couldn't be an old instrument. A couple of weeks later, the book-end glue joint on the top opened up about 1/16th of an inch. Doesn't effect the sound or playing, but looks very bad. Can't return it, don't want to pay to fix it. Next time, I'd stick with a cheaper Kala Model.

Recording King Metal Body Resonator Soprano Ukulele Review

(More customer reviews)This ukulele was a big disappointment, all the more so because Amazon shipped it promptly and it was out of the box 5 days after I bought it.
The intonation was worse that a $30 Mahalo. It wasn't much louder than a solid spruce top, and the overall appearance was, well, cheap. I guess the lesson learned is that a resonator uke for $300 will be "cheap".

(More customer reviews)i got this for my husband to play. we had this for less than a month. the "?tail piece?" has a flaw in it where if you tune the guitar it pops out. mind you the guitar sounded realy nice when it first got to us, so it is a shame that this happens, that beeing said dean guitars has wounderful coustmer service department and had us send it back to them for repairs.... unfortunatly when it got back to us from them the problem had not been fixed and apon tuning the tail piece promptly poped right back out.....thankfully dean has offered to exchange it for a diffrent guitar :)

Luna Muse Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic Guitar, Quilted Ash Review

(More customer reviews)I started playing instruments in 1995 and started playing bass guitar in 1998. I started playing electric guitar around 2001. I custom built my first bass in 2000. This was the first acoustic guitar I have purchased. I did a lot of research and listened to the recordings on Luna's website. I had wanted to purchase the fauna phoenix, but one day I saw this one for sale for less than 250 shipped. I bought it unseen and unplayed, breaking my first rule of guitar shopping, and was very nervous before it arrived.
My apprehension was unfounded. The guitar is stunning. The abalone inlays look excellent. The wood is beautiful. Even the tuning machines look good. The physical beauty of the guitar is surpassed only by its sound. I strum it as I walk past it's stand because it just sounds so good. The harmonics are amazing.
The guitar was set up perfectly when it arrived. The strings where brand new, so it's tuning fluctuated a bit for about a week. Since then the tuning has been very stable, and the strings all seem to detune in tune with each other. The tuner makes it so this isn't a problem. The on board tuner is very convenient, so much so that I couldn't find my electric tuner when I needed it for one of my basses.
I have several friends who have played acoustic guitar much longer than I have and they all love it. From my limited experience it sounds as good or better than any other acoustic I have played. It sounds much better than my friends cheap fender, and on par or better than another friends taylor.
I only have 2 complaints. First, there is no strap button on the neck of my guitar. Second, I don't know what kind of strings are on it. I want to restring it with the same kind because they sound great. I usually try 4 or 5 different string sets before I stick with one for a guitar. However, no one has answered my questions concerning this on the Luna Guitars Forum.
This is now my favorite guitar (out of 7, basses included). If you can find one for 250, its a steal. Buy it.

(More customer reviews)I am an intermediate musician in general, but new to the world of ukuleles, so take this review for what it's worth. :) I am considering buying a ukulele in about this price range, to which end I spent a couple of hours playing this model of Luna in a local music store. I got pretty attached to it, my hand liked it, and it made me want more. In quality and overall value I would definitely compare it with other ukuleles in the same price range. The online price is usually about $50 less than at a brick-and-mortar store, where it can go for up to $299. The amazing design and also the electronics are a big plus. The tone and intonation are fine by me, and I'm very picky about that. I would agree with the previous review that the tone of the comparable Lanikai, the CK-C, is better in the sense of being more "idiomatic" to the ukulele, though I personally found the tone of this to be perfectly satisfactory. In all, I would recommend that there is no substitute for going to different stores and trying various brands and models out for yourself as opposed to buying any instrument purely based on someone else's impression. IMHO if you fall in love with this one, you will not be disappointed. Just my 2 cents. Happy ukeing!

Luna 6 String Celtic Banjo Review

(More customer reviews)It arrived beautifully packed. The banjo/guitar itself is very light, much more like a guitar than a banjo and that's a good thing. I play both and this is easier to carry around than any banjo I own. When you get it, the bridge is in a packet and there are no instructions on how to place it. That is a real problem for 95% of the people who will buy this. I have experience with banjos and it still took me two hours to get it right. I first loosened the strings and worked the bridge under them. After finding the sweet spot (the harmonics on the 5th, 7th, and 12th frets are the way to know you've set the bridge correctly), I took it all apart again: the strings were just dead and clunky.
I put on extra light Martin guitar strings and went through the whole process again. Remember: there is nothing in the package to tell you how to do this. It is unplayable as it arrives -- you have to set it up. I even checked YouTube to see if Luna posted a video how-to and... nothing.
With the extra light strings on it, it sounds much better. It takes a long time to tune because tuning one string puts others out until the clear Remo banjo head settles in for the bridge. The nut is a little high, making it harder to hold down the strings on the first two frets. I'll have to deal with that later. For now, I've found that it plays best if you play it like a flatpicked guitar, a mandolin, or an octave mandolin. Using a pick and playing tremolo makes it sound very Celtic... but the left hand has to work hard to get the strings down clearly. Gotta work on that nut...

I have had many guitars in my lifetime and this one ranks right up their with some of the best.
The set up and action is excellent, Just a little weak on the bottom end, Fit and finish is excellent.
Fishman Pre-amp is Just OK, med level but works fine.
But if you want a great playing guitar that you don't have to baby around a large Jam Session.
It's Great, and it will keep up with most med level Taylors or Martins in a group setting.
Because this is an all solid wood instrument it can only get better with age.

Luna Muse 12 String Cutaway Acoustic Guitar, Maple Review

(More customer reviews)This is my third or forth 12 string and I am very impressed (the others were Yamaha and Ibenez). The solid top and maple back and sides create a sweet tone and when plugged in it rocked my world. I'm not going to suggest that it will beat a Taylor or Gibson or any other high end guitar but when you consider it is about one fifth to one tenth of the price, well...nuf said. Still it has great tone and the action makes you think you're playing a six string. The neck is a little narrower than a standard 12 string, but it's not a problem for me and I have big fat ogre fingers. You get so much more than your moneys worth. I'm thinking about selling my Ovation Legend so I can make room for the six string Luna Muse.

(More customer reviews)I bought this guitar as my "starter" guitar. I started playing in January 2009 and after 6 months, I have had nothing at all negative to say about this guitar. Friends who have played this are amazed at its sound quality, particularly when they learn about the price.
Luna recently got a boost by being featured on American Idol, but even without the publicity I'm sure this is a brand which will fare well. I am very happy to have selcted this guitar as my starter and imagine that with time I will have a "collection" of Luna guitars.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this guitar for myself after seeing it on Gold Box for significantly less than MSRP. Before purchasing, I checked out Luna's website and listened to several sound clips and watched videos of some professional musicians playing Luna guitars. I currently own a Taylor 410, and a couple of low-end Yamaha acoustic guitars. I consider myself somewhere between an intermediate to advanced guitar player. I've been looking for an acoustic-electric cutaway, at a reasonable price, for several months. I thought I couldn't go wrong with this Luna at the Gold Box price.
When the "first" guitar arrived, the box had obvious shipping damage (bent in half at the neck area). Upon opening the box, I discovered the top half of the neck snapped completely off, dangling by its strings. These guitars are simply wrapped once around with a VERY thin layer of foam wrap (about 1 mm thick), and stuffed in a cheap, lightweight cardboard box. I couldn't believe a guitar manufacturer would package a guitar with so little padding and protection, and worse yet, that Amazon would ship the guitar in the same flimsy box from Luna (without putting it in another box).
The return process was simple and painless: I provided Amazon with a brief explanation of why I wanted to return the guitar, and this triggered an automatic shipment of a replacement guitar. I printed a pre-paid UPS shipping label, and dropped the package off at a local UPS store.
The "second" guitar arrived about a week later. Once again, the guitar arrived in the same flimsy box, this time with a fairly large hole torn in the outside. I was pleasantly surprised to find no obvious damage to the guitar, however, the neck had a large finish crack on the back near the body of the guitar. This was not shipping damage, but a gross manufacturing defect. At least with this guitar I was able to play it and give it the once-over. The strings were mediocre, and the action was a bit high. Tone quality was marginal. The built-in electronic tuner worked well and the electronics appeared to be decent, although I never had a chance to plug in to an amplifier. The return process was then repeated.
The "third" guitar arrived, again, about a week after the second was returned. This time, the guitar was packaged in a second, heavier box, which was encouraging, although the inside box was not sealed and had been opened. After taking the guitar out and playing it a bit, I thought the third time was the charm. I thought wrong. This time, the finish at the bottom edge of the body looked like it was delaminated and could peel away. The blemish could very well have been from an impact, which makes me wonder if this guitar had been a customer return. While I had the guitar out, I played it just to get a comparison with the second one. It was very similar in sound and playability, with the action also being a bit high. Due to three strikes with three different guitars, I opted not to get a replacement, but requested a refund instead.
At a glance, these guitars appeared to be fairly well made, but fit and finish quality is far from excellent. I would expect a guitar with an MSRP around $600 to be free from dust specks in the finish, and the edge binding should line up well at the seams, and be blemish-free. None of the three Luna guitars I received met these expectations.
In my opinion, this is a risky purchase if you expect excellent quality, durable packaging, and great sound.

(More customer reviews)I felt compelled to bring the star rating up on this; For the record.. this guitar is awesome! I don't know what is going on with amazon or other sites; But please don't blame Luna or the product for others' poor customer service.
I have owned this guitar for over 2 years: yes it is as beautiful as the picture if not more so; this guitar gets compliments wherever I go. The sound is awesome but pretty average to most electrics.. maybe somewhat fuller; but its a relatively small as semi hollow body ('s) go.
What I love best (besides the beautiful color, moon phase frets, and look of the guitar) is the action; very nice and low; slim neck profile as all Luna's; very easy to play without a compromise on sound; light weight and ergonomic; you will not be disappointed with this guitar; it is my favorite guitar; and I don't anticipate this changing any time soon.

(More customer reviews)I loooove this ukulele. The sound is beautiful, and it's wonderfully made. Not to mention the lovely design. Previously I was playing on an Oscar Schmidt, and I loved that one but when as soon as my Luna was tuned and ready to go... wow the first chord I could just tell the sound was amazing.
The only thing I do NOT like is where the plug for electric capabilities is located. It makes it so that I can't sit and play, so I had to crochet a strap haha. But that's about it, everything else is amazing.
