Creative Professional E-MU 0404 USB 2.0 - Sound card - 24-bit - 192 kHz - 117 dB SNR - stereo - Hi-Speed USB Review

Creative Professional E-MU 0404 USB 2.0 - Sound card - 24-bit - 192 kHz - 117 dB SNR - stereo - Hi-Speed USB

I need to point out that this is an *audio* interface first and foremost. Some of the other reviews only mention its MIDI capabilities. It is *also* a MIDI interface, but the primary purpose of this box is to facilitate the recording of audio. It has some great AD/DA converters to that end, along with the capabilities for very high sampling rates (unlike USB1 interfaces).
Another review also talked about using it as an external sound card. You certainly can do that, but it's a waste of money - other products exist that do the same thing better for cheaper, and without as much bulk or an external AC brick to deal with. No, if you're going to buy this box, buy it to record audio and/or MIDI.
If you're still confused as to why this thing exists, the bottom line is if you need it, you know it. This is a category of device designed for "advanced amateur" home recordists and musicians, who want to record their instruments and make their own demo tapes and need top quality and certain features that don't come stock in a standard PC sound card.
Now, as for this product vs. others in its category - I've only had it for a day, but so far, it does what it's supposed to. What you're really paying for are the DACs and the software, both of which are extremely important to home recording. The hardware other than the DACs is kind of cheap and flimsy, but it works. It's not going to stand up to abuse, though - it's all plastic, with gritty-feeling knobs and buttons and a thin plastic casing. One nice thing is having level displays on the box itself, which is something that some budget interfaces lack. Everything does work like it should.
A big question in audio interfaces is the actual interface itself between the box/card and your computer, which affects latency. I wanted something that I could use with any computer that I use, be it my laptop, my desktop, or a computer at my office. That ruled out PCI, which offers the best latency (but requires a breakout box if you want things like hardware level monitors), and it ruled out firewire too, because my laptop doesn't have the ports. I felt USB 2.0 was a decent compromise; it's not quite as good as firewire and definitely not as good as PCI, but it's a lot better than USB 1.1. If you can use PCI, though, Emu also offers a PCI version of this interface - just be aware that you'll be giving up a few features, plus the obvious portability. If you want USB 2.0 for the same reasons I did, this is honestly one of the few audio interfaces out there that can use it. (Most manufacturers assume you're either a pro, in which case you want firewire, or you're a total budget amateur, in which case you want USB 1.1.) There is definitely some latency when monitoring your recordings through the PC, but on the plus side the box does offer zero-latency hardware monitoring directly through the box.
The software bundle is pretty amazing for the price, and it's another big reason why I bought this model. It actually ships with at least three (by my count) full-fledged recording apps: CuBase LE, Ableton Live and Cakewalk LE. Don't let the "LE" designations scare you - they're totally feature-packed apps, just with fewer tracks and VST instruments than the full versions. Do you really need 96 recording tracks for a home recording? 24 should be enough. But the nice thing is these apps also give you an upgrade path to the full versions if you so desire, so you end up saving money vs. buying the full app by itself. This unit also comes with Amplitube LE, which is a plugin for Cubase that models a variety of guitar amps so you can really get that perfect sound that you're looking for - I've been having a ton of fun with this.
I give it four out of five stars only because of its questionable durability. This is not the interface you want if you plan to carry it around in a gig bag all over the place. Also, it does have an external power brick (a small one) - though that's what enables the phantom power for the mic inputs, so it's a good tradeoff. Still, if you want something really portable, look elsewhere (though you'll probably have to give up phantom power). But if you want a good all-around interface for not a lot of money, with a great software package and pro-level audio quality, and you plan to keep it on a desk most of the time, this unit is definitely worth a look.

Samick AB2 - Natural 4-string Regency Acoustic Bass with Case Review

Samick AB2 - Natural 4-string Regency Acoustic Bass with Case
Average Reviews:

I have been taking lessons for the last 3 months. At 58 years old I doubt if I'll make it on the road. I can say this is a great guitar. The tones are deep, rich and clean. It also is a very player friendly guitar. Stings are very easy to connect with the frets. I found and bought it used but it appears to be in mint condition. I would highly recommend it to either the beginner or to the master. I like it very much.
As I stated I have only taken 3 months of lessons so consideration has to be taken when you check on out. Thanks and have a great day.

There is something almost indescribable about the warmth of acoustic music. The round tones, the musical purity, and the resonance generated by acoustic instruments draw the listener into the inner circle of the musical experience. The Acoustic Bass provides the foundation on which all other acoustic instruments build their harmony. A strong, sustaining tone yet a richness in its ability to blend, is the pure definition of an Acoustic Bass Guitar.

I'm a beginner and was looking for a guitar I could grow into. I did my research and in the end, this guitar was perfect! I've owned it for about a month and it has exceeded my expectations. Others have pointed out disappointment in regards to the guitar's origin (Mexico). No one having done ANY research would be surprised by this. I feel the guitar is held to the same Martin standards as the one built in the states relative to it's price point.

Acoustic B200H 200w Bass Head Review

Acoustic B200H 200w Bass Head
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Acoustic B200H is a solid Head. It offers quite a punch for only being 200 watts. There are 2 very nice features about this Head. The first is that its air vents are at the top of the Head while the fan is in the back. This provides excellent airflow without hindrance. The second nice feature is the Direct Out located in the back of the Head. The Direct Out allows you to plug your amp into a separate system like a PA system. The Direct Out also has a volume dial to determine how much bass you want to send out. (Most Heads do not provide a Direct Out so if they wanted to go through a PA system, the amp would have to be mic'ed) Overall this Head is solid and can take a beating. It is a steal for the price.

The Acoustic B200H professional head is designed for large club and live applications where it will fill any stage with depth and definition. Used in conjunction with the B115 and/or B410 enclosures, the B200H will easily drive either one or two cabinets in any combination of your choice. The two bass inputs are designed to accommodate both active and passive bass instruments while the Gain and Volume controls give you complete control over the character of your tone. Increase the gain for some old school rock tones, or lower it and turn up the volume for great clean, classic or funk tones. The preamp includes a very natural and tube-like compression as well as a harmonically rich distortion circuit, which keeps your tone musical — even at high volume levels. The B200H also includes a notch filter to tailor your mids, and a six-band EQ for exact control over every nuance of your bass's tone.Rear panel features include a parallel Effects Loop, and XLR balanced Line Out with Level Control and Ground Lift. The two speaker output jacks allow you to directly connect to each enclosure (such as the B115 and/or B410) to maximize your tone and power. The heritage of Acoustic comes through loud and clear in the B200H — a seriously professional stage head for serious bassists.

Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin - Cognac Burst 6-string Acoustic Guitar Review

Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin - Cognac Burst 6-string Acoustic Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
While I was at my local music store looking for a new accoustic guitar, I was introduced to this amazing guitar. This was the first time that I had ever played an arch top and I fell in love, and what amazed me is it plays and feals better than an expensive accoustic. The old arch tops were big and bulky, very expensive
and had very little low to mid range sound that accoustic players have come to love.
While researching this guitar I found that this very guitar was a labor of love for Mr.Godin. He wanted to re-invent the arch top and did he ever!
This guitar has a big accoustic guitar sound. Has an incredible low,mid and high tones, it is thinner than most arch tops and has a great price. This has the true vintage spirit but with all of the modern tone and playability that a guitar player loves.
This baby comes with a single coil P-90 pick up,
Canadian wild cherry back and sides,
silver leaf maple neck,
adjustable floating bridge,
custom french "style" polish on the body,
1+ tone-1+ volume finished of by those classic top hat knobs,
16"FINGER BOARD RADIUS
24.84" scale
1.72" nut width
and an awsome, feather light molded guitar case.
If you love accoustic guitars you should take a trip to you're local music store and take this beauty for a test ride I promise you wont be let down. And if you love to play a traditional arch top I think you will be very suprised at what The Godin guitar co. has accomplished.

From Alt-Country, Delta Blues, Slide, Jazz to Rock, the 5th Avenue can really deliver both acoustically and electrically. Acoustic AG60 60W 2x8 Acoustic Guitar Combo Amp, Black Review

Acoustic AG60 60W 2x8 Acoustic Guitar Combo Amp, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Before I bought my Acoustic AG60, I auditioned a lot of acoustic guitar amps at my local guitar center. For my ears, most of those amps were simply too tinny - they lacked bass projection and 'warmth'. The Acoustic, and in some cases the Fender line of acoustic amps were the warmest and most natural sounding to my ears. I ultimately selected the Acoustic because in my opinion, it won the sound contest. The effects were usable and natural sounding, the 2x8" monitor speakers have punch and projection, and the front panel has 4 inputs (with 'combination connectors' that can take XLR or unbalanced 1/4" phono plugs).
Many times an amp sounds good in the store, but when you get it home, it disappoints. Not so with the Acoustic. It sounds every bit as good at home as it did in the store and I can run vocals and guitars through it at the same time and it really works well as a practice amp.
I have but one complaint with this amp; the inputs clip at too low of a volume. You never do get that 60 watts they promise you. To my ears, comparing the output of my guitar amps, the AG60 never puts out more than 30 watts. As you turn up the inputs past about 9 o'clock, you get the familiar 'digital crackle' of transistor clipping. If I could push it to max power without distortion I'd be more happy with it.
However, I think this amp does everything else perfectly, and I recommend it highly due to it's superior sonic qualities. Just be sure to pick up the version of this amp that allows you to get the volume you want out of it before clipping (they make them in 15w, 60w, and 100w). This amp is highly musical for acoustic guitars, voice, and electric guitars. I have found that it sounds fantastic with my electrics clean, and it sounds really good with some Boss stomp overdrives I have. Other than the clipping issue, I really like this amp and would highly recommend it! Two of these will make a nice small club stereo PA or due to the wedge cabinet design, it makes a nice little self contained stage monitor setup.
And, because the amp has a preamp send, when using it as a stage monitor, you can simultaneously send it's output to a larger house PA. Another possible important application for this amp is as a reproduction system for today's 'modeling preamps'. For example, you could hook up a Vox Tonelab or POD XT Pro to a pair of these and have a really nice stereo small club setup. With those 2x8" speakers, the amp acts very much like a 'studio monitor' so it will faithfully reproduce what ever you pump into it - with some minor but pleasant, and musicaly useful coloration.
Final word is that the amp is well worth the money spent, for electric or acoustic applications, and/or vocals, and highly recommended.

Gibson AJ Advanced Jumbo Guitar, Vintage Sunburst Review

Gibson AJ Advanced Jumbo Guitar, Vintage Sunburst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As far as I'm concerned, this is exactly what acoustic guitars should sound like. You might find more silky or strident highs elsewhere, or more punchy lows from an old martin, and there are plenty of other guitars that excel at one particular element of timbre and tone (though you'd likely pay much more for them), but the advanced jumbo is the complete package! Balanced, delicate, powerful, and resonant, with enveloping depth and richness. Everything comes through clearly, no dominant strings or chords. The tones are nicely complex without getting confused or muddled. The neck is on the thin side which some people may dislike, but it's not anemic. Binding over the fret ends was sloppily finished between the heel and soundhole, and the plastic bridge pins and strap peg seem a little cheaply made, but both are easily remedied. Looking at it, it's about like you'd expect a $2000 acoustic to be. Close your eyes and play, and those little things are quickly forgotten. Beautiful. You can't come close to this kind of sound without paying a heck of a lot more.

Breedlove Passport D200/SMP Acoustic Guitar Review

Breedlove Passport D200/SMP Acoustic Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My last guitar was an Epiphone P150 and this is the guitar I decided on after 2 weeks at my local Guitar Center. I went there every day, drove the guys there crazy asking all sorts of silly questions, and demoed everything within my budget ($700). After 2 weeks, the 3 guitars I ultimately narrowed it down to were the Epiphone Masterbilt (Solid Top - 550), Seagull Maritime (All solid wood - 650), and this Breedlove D200/SMP (Solid Top - 300). I did multiple "blind" tests and kept coming back to the Breedlove because of how efficient the design was...and how FUN FUN FUN it is to play! This Atlas Bridge thing where the strings go right into the bridge with no pins is a very simple design, and I think it is partly why the Breedlove has such great volume. I also like the action on this guitar, its quite easy to play and there is no buzzing anywhere on the fretboard. The sound is probably a bit brighter than both the Epiphone Masterbilt and the Seagull Maritime I played but I like this. The Seagull Maritime probably had a slightly better tone than the Breedlove but I was having a hard time getting used to the wider nut on it (My glove size is Large). Another thing I liked about the Breedlove is that there is little (if any) lacquer on the wood. This adds to the volume but may make maintenance/humidification a bit more important. It also lacks a pick-guard which, again, I think adds to the volume and efficiency, and gives it this pure and simple look, which I also like.
So I got the Guitar Center 10 year warranty on this thing and after having seen how much time and effort I put into choosing my next guitar, they told me I had up to 2 months to come back and exchange it for something else. However, I play my Breedlove every single day and haven't had the time to go back and demo anything else! The guitar is made in Korea and while I was a bit apprehensive about its origin at first, I can see how the setup and tune that Breedlove does in Oregon makes a world of difference (when comparing to other, foreign made guitars).
I would recommend the Breedlove D200/SMP for intermediate players who are looking for an extremely efficient guitar with strong volume. If I had to characterize this guitar in one word, that word would be "FUN".

Breedlove Passport guitars are designed for ultimate portability without tonal sacrifice. These comfortable, easy-to-play instruments are the perfect choice for the musician on the move. Built on the popular dreadnought platform, the body width and depth of the Breedlove Passport D200/SMP guitar produce an ideal sound chamber for the mid and upper-mid range frequencies. The sound is balanced and dynamic, with plenty of clarity and projection, so your sound can cut through nearly any mix. Whether strumming on some rhythmic chords, or getting wild on a show-stopping flat pick solo, the dreadnought guitar sound holds its own alongside almost any instrumentation. The Breedlove Passport acoustic guitar has a solid spruce top that offers rich tone, with lots of presence and clarity, while the maple body adds bold mid-range projection. The bolt-on neck joint creates a sturdy neck with lasting sustain. The rugged mahogany neck and strong rosewood bridge and fretboard add subtleties to the tone, with attention paid to the crispness of the acoustic guitar. The 25-1/2" scale, 1-11/16" nut width, soft V-neck shape, and 16" fretboard radius aid in providing comfort for intricate finger movements up and down the acoustic guitar's 20 frets. Dressed in a soft satin finish, and featuring chrome hardware, and Grover tuners, this Breedlove guitar sings with luxurious appointments, yet it is offered at a price that won't break the bank.

Martin D-35 DreadnoughtThe D-35 was introduced in 1965 in response to a shortage of Brazilian rosewood stock large enough to finish 2-piece Dreadnought-sized backs. The resultant three-piece back -- triangular center wedge and matching outer "wings" -- follows a centuries-old tradition among European and Spanish luthiers of building multi-piece backs. Martin's three-piece back design is especially striking. Extra wide bindings, bound ebony fingerboard and ebony bridge add to the distinctiveness of this model; but the appeal of the D-35 is more than just visual.Tonally, the three-piece back produces a particularly strong bass, making the D-35 ideal for rhythm playing. To accentuate the treble, Martin uses lighter 1/4" top braces which give the D-35 its characteristic warmth and balance.

Yamaha APX900 - Natural Acoustic Electric Cutaway Guitar Review

Why this is a good guitar
Thinline acoustic-electrics are not known for their acoustic tone, but the APX900's tone is acceptable for at-home strumming and practice and even light sing-along duty. It sounds a little dull acoustically and it's not particularly loud, but that's an acceptable compromise to limit feedback when plugged in. The amplified tone is bright--or it can be whatever you want it to be, from dark and thumpy to incisive, from a laid-back tone to jangly with the mids cut and the bass and treble turned up. Like any acoustic-electric, it feeds back if you get in front of the amplifier or your PA speaker, but a provided heavy rubber soundhole plug reduces feedback.
It's hard to find a mid-priced acoustic-electric thinline guitar that doesn't sound thin or brassy, but Yamaha's unique multiple contact pickups sound better than the typical under-saddle piezo pickups found on most competing guitars. The APX900 is especially nice because it has two additional pickups, one on the bass side, one on the treble, each with a level control on the preamp. So you can customize the bass and treble response to your liking. The onboard tuner is accurate and the electronics package is well thought out. The preamp controls adjust through a very wide range of cut and boost.
The materials and finish of the guitar are beautiful--nice woods, deep gloss finish. The plastic soundhole ring is perhaps a little cheesy, but it prevents damage to the edge of the soundhole from enthusiastic picking. The neck is nicely shaped and the cutaway gives access to the higher frets. The gold hardware is pretty, but superfluous.
Why this guitar needs work
I've sampled enough of these guitars to believe that they all come through with essentially the same setup. The strings are too high at the nut and at the bridge and it's impossible to play anything intricate or fast. Most every guitar in this price range has the same flaw because manufacturers won't take the time to do a proper setup and they can't be sure that a low, comfortable action might not wind up too low once the guitar has been shipped, stored, and finally sold. You generally don't find good setup until the price goes over $1000.
I'm fortunate to have the special files to create deeper string grooves for the nut and the tools to lower the height of the bridge saddle. A proper setup on this guitar makes a world of difference in playability, but it needs more: The frets have a matte finish instead of a mirror finish, and they're somewhat flat-topped. Again, this is common in the price range. A guitar repairman can put the proper rounding on the frets and bring them to a high polish, for another major stride in playability.
The final step is to simply throw away the provided strings and replace them with high-quality strings such as Martin MarquisMartin Acoustic String Combo 3 Pack; M2100 Light Marquis Phosphor Bronze, MSP4100 Light Phosphor Bronze and MSP3100 Light 80/20 Bronze or Elixir Elixir Light Nanoweb Acoustic Guitar Strings. The provided strings are touted as anti-rust, but they are draggy, with much friction under your fingers.
With a good setup and strings, the APX900 competes with guitars that cost $400 to $600 more.

What a guitar! The newest member of the APX family, the APX900 features top-quality flamed maple back and sides and a solid spruce top. It delivers a rich, mature tone, with a punchy projection and a bright, long-ringing sustain. A lush and tonally versatile amplified repertoire comes of a newly designed 3-Band preamp, whose adjustable mid-band frequency covers a broad 80Hz - 10kHz spectrum. This not only allows control over the midrange but enables reshaping part of the low and high bands in addition to the dedicated bass and treble controls.

Luna Muse Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic Guitar, Quilted Ash Review

I started playing instruments in 1995 and started playing bass guitar in 1998. I started playing electric guitar around 2001. I custom built my first bass in 2000. This was the first acoustic guitar I have purchased. I did a lot of research and listened to the recordings on Luna's website. I had wanted to purchase the fauna phoenix, but one day I saw this one for sale for less than 250 shipped. I bought it unseen and unplayed, breaking my first rule of guitar shopping, and was very nervous before it arrived.
My apprehension was unfounded. The guitar is stunning. The abalone inlays look excellent. The wood is beautiful. Even the tuning machines look good. The physical beauty of the guitar is surpassed only by its sound. I strum it as I walk past it's stand because it just sounds so good. The harmonics are amazing.
The guitar was set up perfectly when it arrived. The strings where brand new, so it's tuning fluctuated a bit for about a week. Since then the tuning has been very stable, and the strings all seem to detune in tune with each other. The tuner makes it so this isn't a problem. The on board tuner is very convenient, so much so that I couldn't find my electric tuner when I needed it for one of my basses.
I have several friends who have played acoustic guitar much longer than I have and they all love it. From my limited experience it sounds as good or better than any other acoustic I have played. It sounds much better than my friends cheap fender, and on par or better than another friends taylor.
I only have 2 complaints. First, there is no strap button on the neck of my guitar. Second, I don't know what kind of strings are on it. I want to restring it with the same kind because they sound great. I usually try 4 or 5 different string sets before I stick with one for a guitar. However, no one has answered my questions concerning this on the Luna Guitars Forum.
This is now my favorite guitar (out of 7, basses included). If you can find one for 250, its a steal. Buy it.
