Silver Creek T-170 Acoustic Guitar, Natural Review

(More customer reviews)I had just finished reading the book "Clapton's Guitar" so you may understand why I was blown away by an all-solid wood 000/OM acoustic guitar for next to nothing.
Thinking I would tell my wife it was for "market survey" all the while I was secretly drooling over what might arrive. (I'm in the building end).
Back and sides were a beautiful straight-grained Indian Rosewood.
The top is maybe an "A" grade Engelmann top and is punchy like Adirondac Spruce.
The inside bracing and kerfing are clean and sans glue squeeze out.
The backstrip, inside the box, is a very tight-grained Spruce and looks perfect.
Bridge is cleanly done.
The mahogany neck feels slightly boaty with a "V" shape but still very playable.
String spacing is generous and it's easy to hit all the notes.
The neck is stained dark and has a volute,
both Martin style. No buzzing but after the action is lowered it will need a neck adjustment or vice versa.
Peghead Inlay looks CNC'd and is perfectly done.
The finish is gloss and is very well done and polished without the usual wavy lines prevalent in cheap and poorly done high-end guitars.
The Tuners remind me of small Waverly's.. But!
Frets are cleanly done but could use a polish.
The action is too high and the saddle should be replaced with a
Martin Saddle seated flat into the bridge slot and intonated.
The nut seemed fine.
All in all, setup aside, this guitar is awesome with beautiful Tone!
and plenty of 000 vibe!
I was able to coax some very sweet notes from this guitar!
Even with the stock strings.
Now for the bad part: I should of bought two!
All this for "Market Survey"!
Someone has to do it!

Recording King Contemporary Series II Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar (Rosewood) Review

(More customer reviews)This is my 4th Recording King purchased, my Series II 000 style RO-27 impressed me so much, I felt 1 just wasn't enough. This arrived very quickly, as did the others, with free shipping option, well packaged & intact. When I opened it the pickguard was curled up on the inside & outer edge. I'm fairly sure the cold weather while in transit did that. Since this is a fairly expensive model, I immediately contacted Amazon & they had another ready to replace this one. My printer malfunctioned so I wasn't able to print the return sticker, in that time I thought it over some more. The guitar was completely intact & drop dead gorgeous, other than that curled pickguard. I contacted Amazon to find out what the charge would be if I just kept mine & the soon to be shipped replacement. They then told me I could keep the one I have & they would credit a discount to my account. I pealed the pickguard the rest of the way off & there was no damage to the finish underneath, so I took them up on their offer. I SURE am glad I. This guitar plays smoothly & sounds fabulous. Customer service is so great at Amazon I prefer buying from them than to risk the standing in lines - near combative discussions that most of the big box stores have stooped to. They could learn much from Amazon in that department. 5 stars fit this purchase I LOVE this guitar & Amazon has earned one very satisfied customer's loyalty yet again. I can't & won't fault Recording King for the lifted pickguard either, with the realization that they don't use a more permanent bond because some customers would rather not have it on such a beautiful piece of wood. I could salvage the original .. but it is so beautiful without it & the sound hole rosette seems more accentuated, I doubt if it will go back on. I have my RD 16 & 17 CFEs if I feel like pick playing. When I can spend my money & feel the need to say THANKS Amazon & Recording King.. that speaks volumes.

Silver Creek D-170 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar, Natural Review

(More customer reviews)Well I have spent about about three weeks with my Silver Creek Dread and here are my thoughts -
Let me start out by saying if you think you are getting a Martin D-28 clone with this guy - You really are not.
I have read that the Silver Creeks are made in the same Chinese Factory as the Recording Kings - but with lesser appointments - and to be sold through one main retailer.
Out of the box the SC was playable and attractive and the Tone was not bad - So I will break down what I liked and what I did not like. Keep in mind this is my opinion!
1. First of all out of the box the guitar was playable - But Defiantly in need of a set up - action was pretty high past the third fret.
2. After looking up and down and inside and out the only imperfection I could find was about a dime size dust spot on the back under the Laquer - Quality control was a little lacking.
3. The Guitar comes with a Bone nut an saddle - The nut was cut very well but you might need to shave a little off the saddle.
4. The Headstock is a flat top/ Martin Style with a nice Flower Vase/ abalone inlay - Though I must say - after close inspection some of the Letters in Silver Creek are crooked.
5. The Tuners - I have read many complaints here - I find the Kluson knockoffs attractive and useable but again only time will tell.
6. The neck is solid Mahogany with a Dyed black rosewood fretboard - The Fret work seemed surpurb and I felt really shined - Nice Job!
7. The Bridge is solid Rosewood and again dyed black - Well placed and solid adherence to the top.
8. The top is Solid Sitka Spruce or possibly Englemann spruce! Very nice Grain - No run out - It does have vintage Toner applied - I like that - some folks don't.
9. The back and sides are solid Rosewood with very nice striping. Beautiful work with the exception of the blem I mentioned earlier.
10. The back and top are Bound with ivoroid binding - nice work done here. And some nice purfling on the top side.
11. The Rosette is "28" inspired and nicely done.
12. The pickguard is red tortise like and nicely cut- very Martin like.
13. Bridge pins are plastic - White/black dot and totally useable/ Think Gibson - End pin White/black dot totally secure.
14. Internal look over - Foward bracing - scalloped struts and some small wood shavings. Overall pretty clean.
15. Neck Shape - has been refered to as V - If its V - it is a Soft V - Feels more D shaped to me.
16. The Guitar has a nice Gloss finish - not over done like some users have mentioned - I would say on par with Martin Std series Guitars.
Presently I have it strung with Martin Lights - Sounds good but will probely experiment with other Strings.
Sound - Tone -- If your expecting Martin tones to come flowing out of the sound hole you might be a little disapointed. Though the volume and Bass on this model is decent - not really a Cannon though.
Bottomline - The Silver Creek has " Its own Tone" I am sure Great to some and so/so to others - Only you can decide.
I purchased this Guitar mainly because I wanted a well built Dreadnaught Guitar for a very affordable dollar - And If I had the extra money I would have with out a doubt put it into a Martin
Bottom line-- dollar for dollar I don't think you can find a Better Dreadnaught for the Price!!!!

(More customer reviews)Just a quick review...I received this guitar as a Christmas gift. I really can't say enough nice things about it. Solid spruce top and a nut and saddle made out of real bone. I am not sure how, given the low price, that they can make any money on this thing. I am really enjoying playing this guitar. One thing I noticed right out of the box is the fact that the set up on the guitar was excellent (the string height to the fret board, the feel of the neck all felt great.) Someone is paying attention to those little things. As it is an OOO-sized guitar it will not have the heavy bass response that a dreadnought sized guitar provides but the mid-ranges just jump out of this guitar! I am just amazed at what you get for the price. I can only imagine what the higher priced recording king models sound like - they have to be really nice (maybe for next Christmas!).

Gave it a try and the tone just grabbed me. Took it home and saved $5000. I have not been disappointed. Got over the headstock envy years ago. Sound good as it is and will only get better with age. I play it a couple of hours every day. If you want a fancy guitar with great tone at a decent price check it out. Oh yeah, the workmanship on all the abalone is flawless as is the beautiful head stock. I'm very happy to have found it!

(More customer reviews)I really like the neck on this guitar. I am learning blues guitar and Ragtime finger picking. I wanted the 1¾ inch nut and the ooo body. I need the nice wide string spacing because my left hand is a little messed up from an industrial accident. I also play bottleneck slide.
My Recording King came double boxed and arrived in great shape. I got mine at Christmas and the delivery was right on time as promised. The Model is RO-17 and it has no pickguard. These are things I needed to know but the product description didn't tell me. The strings were crap. They looked old and turned my fingers black. That was no biggie. I always change out to light gauge strings anyway. However, when I put the new ones on, the tuners for the two bottom strings stripped out. They are not high quality. I am now going to put some Grover Sta-Tites on it. That's about $50 that I didn't want to spend, but I like this Guitar too much to send it back. I got mine for $192.00 so with the new tuners it cost me about what they sell for now. I'll add to this review when I get the new tuners.

(More customer reviews)I was looking for a bluegrass type drednaught that would cut through in a jam situation. I bough this for the solid spruce top an rosewood sides and back (laminated but thats fine with me). When I recieved it the action was way to high and the intonation was bad. If I rated it then it would have been a 3 but after I took the bone saddle off and filed it down and reshaped it a little the action and intonation were great, 5 minute fix! I have owned thousand dollar guitars and played a lot more ( taylors, martins, guild ect,) and this guitar is alive with sound, nice and punchy with good bass and great highs, just what I wanted and better than I expected for the price. the pickgaurd sucks but I took mine off and it looks good that way. If I start to scratch it Ill throw a cheap one on it.

Recording King Classic Series OOO-Style Acoustic Guitar with Herringbone (Mahogany) Review

(More customer reviews)This is a 000 "Martin style," solid wood acoustic guitar. The 000 body here looks like an OM - a feature of early guitars in this style was a longer scale (and was called an OM) - 25 inches plus, the short scale came later (24.9 and less) and was done with the intention of making the guitar easier to play due to the lack of choice when it came to string gauges (heavy or medium or nothing). This guitar is well constructed: hand carved neck, with an 1 3/4 inch nut width, bone nut and saddle, ebony fretboard and bridge, a real rosewood veneer over the peghead, and matched mahogany back and sides and a matched sitka spruce top...all very clean, it appears to be AA in wood grade and finished in an aged light gloss finish. The neck feels more like a modified V than a "C" profile. Body and neck joint feature grained ivoroid binding and a peek inside reveals scalloped bracing. The top presents with herringbone and a well done torch inlay on the peghead. This is a well designed, and well made guitar. The tone is very traditional - you get the presence and warm mid range of mahogany. This particular guitar has a bit more bass than I was expecting, but I find that to be a bonus. Otherwise, it is very balanced. To other consumers, I find this guitar to be a significant value...the quality of wood, inlays and workmanship come together to make a great guitar - perfect for fingerstyle blues, traditional country and ragtime. I doubt that this level of quality will be this affordable for much longer. If you cannot afford a Martin in this style, you will not be underserved by this guitar. It is highly recommended.

Recording King Century Studio Series 12th Fret OOO-Style Acoustic Guitar (Rosewood) Review

(More customer reviews)For whatever reason Amazon has this priced lower than the ROS-627 model. This ROS-647 model is identical to the 627 model except for some extra "bling" in the form of hand inlaid abalone. Normally the 647 is $200 or so more than the 627. Thus amazon has an awesome price on this guitar. Unless you don't want a flashy guitar, it's a no brainer to get this over the ROS-627.
The first guitar I was sent had a crack in the back. I couldn't tell if this was a crack in the wood or the lacquer. Either way, I sent it back. Unfortunately amazon made me pay the postage, but I expect to be re-imbursed. Rather than wait for a replacement I requested a refund and ordered a second guitar. The second one was perfect, though it did need a little humidification as the frets were a bit sharp. I recommend picking up an oasis case insert (I don't trust the ones that go in the guitar) for the winter months.
The guitar is beautiful, so beautiful in fact that I'm planning on getting a wall-hanger for it to use when the humidity gets better. It also sounds great too! I'm pretty much a novice to the guitar, but I have played the violin for many years (I got a guitar recently as my infant son seem to really like guitar music/singing) so I know a little bit about how wood should sound and it sounds great. I think this is a fine guitar for all levels of players, but is an especially good deal for an amateur guitarist like me. Honestly, I don't see myself ever needing another guitar in this style as this one should last me forever. However, god forbid something should happen to it (my infant son knocks it over, etc.), it's nice to know it isn't a $3,000 guitar. In fact I don't think I could really enjoy a Martin (or alternately a Huss and Dalton, as I really like those) the way I'd like as I'd be so scared of damaging it. One thing to note is that getting a case for it is a little difficult. A standard OOO sized case will not fit this guitar. In fact I was unable to find a case that worked for sale on Amazon. However, I did find a "guardian" brand 12-fret OOO case on another site.

Aria AP-STD2 Parlour Acoustic Guitar Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this guitar online purely on the basis of the excellent reputation Aria company has built for themselves over the years in the guitar manufacturing industry.
I did feel unsure initially in deciding to buy this guitar without first playing it.
But my fears were removed when I took it out of the box and strumed the guitar. This little fella has great volumne, tone and fretboard playability that is second to maybe another Aria.
I use this guitar to play jazz and it has all the attributes that a jazz guitarist need to bring out some creativity. It is a very versatile guitar for folk , blues , jazz etc.
I highly recommend this parlor guitar for those who want a small bodied guitar with great tone and projection.Keep up your excellent work Aria.

This model has a beautiful abalone rosette and abalone purfling on the top. (More customer reviews)I've been playing a few years. Two years back I invested in a Martin EC00028, it is beautiful as you would expect for guitar priced over £2K. Having got used to the slightly wider fretboard on the Martin (1 & 3/4 inches as opposed to your standard 1 & 11/16" at the nut), I was looking for a similar sized cheaper guitar that I would be comfortable knocking around with on the beach or at parties etc.. My choices of guitars with this same fretboard dimentions was limited to say the least. In fact, there was only one other that fit the bill and pleased me asthetically (the name escapes me now).
So, about a year ago I called the only stockist of this make, which happened to be in the U.S, to order one. At the time it was priced at only $199.00, so I was happy to take the risk of not playing before I purchased (which can obviously be dodgey at the best of times). To cut a very long and irritating story short, the U.S shop refused to courier the guitar to the U.K. and the manufacturer was not able to supply direct from China. I had to first send the item from the shop in the U.S to a friend in Canada (which involved paying additional tax) and then from there to me in the U.K. By the time I had finished I had paid around £150 to get a $199 guitar to the U.K. What an idiot right? - Wrong!
Without doubt it has been my favourite guitar ever. I wouldn't swap it for my martin, but only because of the £'s involved. The build quality on mine is excellent and the woods used (solid top, back and sides!)are really quite outstanding for the price. The tones honestly match that of the martin. I tweeked mine a little, some decent strings and lowering the action a fraction and just loved it.
If you are looking for a guitar in this price range and like a slightly wider fretboard, buy this one, I've not come across anything at this cost to beat it. Genuinely a great bit of kit.

(More customer reviews)This gorgeous acoustic arrived in perfect shape from Amazon, with a factory set-up that was incredibly accurate. Action, neck relief, neck angle, playability, everything was so perfect.
The Recording King RO 127 is a (very well made ) copy of a vintage OM 28 Martin Herringbone,
with all solid woods, 3/4 neck width, and V neck shape. Top is spruce, back and sides rosewood.
They are made in China under supervision and design of Johnson guitar co., USA.
The tone of the guitar is superb: very loud, full of overtones, great low end and ringing trebles.
I couldn't be happier. If you are looking for a beautiful Martin but cannot afford the price, this is the guitar you should look for !

Yamaha FS720S Acoustic Guitar, Tobacco Brown Sunburst Review

(More customer reviews)It took several tries to find "the one." Have been looking for a well crafted acoustic with a sunburst finish under $300.00. Dreadnoughts are wonderful with that gorgeous full sound but they are too large for me to play comfortably. I ordered the Yamaha 720S online sight unseen and was amazed at what arrived. The craftmanship was absolutely flawless. The factory set-up perfect. The only thing that it needed was to be restrung with DR Rare medium strings and a little play-in time-it has a full range of clear tone all the way up the scale and great volume- she is a keeper =)
