Gibson AJ Advanced Jumbo Guitar, Vintage Sunburst Review

Gibson AJ Advanced Jumbo Guitar, Vintage Sunburst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As far as I'm concerned, this is exactly what acoustic guitars should sound like. You might find more silky or strident highs elsewhere, or more punchy lows from an old martin, and there are plenty of other guitars that excel at one particular element of timbre and tone (though you'd likely pay much more for them), but the advanced jumbo is the complete package! Balanced, delicate, powerful, and resonant, with enveloping depth and richness. Everything comes through clearly, no dominant strings or chords. The tones are nicely complex without getting confused or muddled. The neck is on the thin side which some people may dislike, but it's not anemic. Binding over the fret ends was sloppily finished between the heel and soundhole, and the plastic bridge pins and strap peg seem a little cheaply made, but both are easily remedied. Looking at it, it's about like you'd expect a $2000 acoustic to be. Close your eyes and play, and those little things are quickly forgotten. Beautiful. You can't come close to this kind of sound without paying a heck of a lot more.

Dean Tradition S2 Solid Top Dreadnaught Acoustic Guitar, Gloss Natural Review

Dean Tradition S2 Solid Top Dreadnaught Acoustic Guitar, Gloss Natural
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have to preface this review with a comment on Amazon. At first, I was very upset when my guitar arrived, as it was a left-handed model, when I had ordered a right hand version. Amazon was great, sending out my replacement righty guitar NEXT DAY FedEx! I had barely sent back the left hand model when the righty arrived at my door step. Fantastic customer service from Amazon!Product: Dean Tradition S2, Gloss Natural
Price Paid: $110 (usually sells here for $225)
Sound: Sounds great! I was expecting a slight step up from other entry level guitars, but this sounds way better than I had figured it would. Very full deep sound from the solid spruce top.
Action/Playability: Very easy to play. It has taken me a few soungs to get used to the scale, as I had been using my daughters Jr. sized guitar, but once that was done, I have had no problems. The neck is straight and true, and the action is good.
Craftsmanship/Reliability: Very beautiful guitar. The tortoise binding gives this guitar an extra bit of class, and the wood is beautiful. As to reliability - I've only had it a short time, but it seems very solid.
Overall Rating: Five stars. I was hoping to get a nicer guitar than is typically available in my budget (I was planning to spend ~$125), and the sale on this Dean was just what I was looking for. Most in the lower price range are typically poorly made, or don't sound that good. Now, I can't say for sure that I would have bought this particular model if my budget had been $225, so maybe my review is a bit biased by the sale price I paid. Either way, I'm a very satisfied Amazon and Dean customer!

Gibson J-45 True Vintage Vintage Sunburst Acoustic Guitar Review

Gibson J-45 True Vintage Vintage Sunburst Acoustic Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I find the J-45 the perfect mid-point between the brass and boom of a hardcore dreadnought and the sweeter, more balanced tone of smaller-bodied guitars. My first good acoustic was a Martin HD-28LSV and while it was an incredible bluegrass guitar in every way, it wasn't very well suited for other styles. You could change the strings, change your pick and play it differently but it would still have that unmistakable boom and bark with not much midrange. I now own a 2005 J-45 Historic Collection and it is essentially identical to the True Vintage apart from the later-era logo. It can do bluegrass, country, folk, jazz, blues, Irish tunes, rock, pop, choro and anything else you can throw at it with ease. It does have an unmistakable quality to the sound but that doesn't get in the way of your input and I think that is the key to what makes it such a versatile "workhorse" instrument.
After having played so many dead Gibsons over the years, mainly post-1994 models, I'd all but sworn off getting a newer one but I managed to find a good one. Playing as many examples as possible is standard practice in the classical guitar world but it seems to be either less of a priority or completely unknown to the casual steel string player. This is definitely the key to finding and acquiring a good one. I've bought a few guitars sight-unseen on seven day approval but I couldn't imagine buying one without it, which I've met many that have. If you want a guitar, that is okay but if you want an instrument, you have to find one that you can really speak with.
The thing that got me into slope-shoulder guitars in the first place was a sublime Dana Bourgeois Slope D that I tried out ten years ago. That guitar has always stuck in my mind and while the J-45 may not be quite as refined in sound and construction as the Bourgeois, at this point, I actually prefer its slightly more raw character. I don't think you can go wrong with any J-45 but certainly the True Vintage comes as close as you can get to the iconic pre-war classic without mortgaging your house. Five stars.

Gibson's new J-45 True Vintage captures the genuine spirit of Gibson's most popular acoustic. Nicknamed "The Workhorse" for its simple, rock-solid construction, the new J-45 True Vintage--hand-made by Gibson Acoustic in Bozeman, Montana--offers the build, materials, looks, and tone of this legendary guitar as it was the day it was first introduced in 1942. This new model stays true to the original in every way, including the same round-shoulder dreadnought body design, with a top made from Adirondack red spruce, custom vintage top bracing, and back and sides constructed from pattern-grade mahogany from Honduras.

The genuine spirit of Gibson's most popular acoustic.
Gibson Logo The Gibson name has graced the most innovative and revolutionary acoustic guitars of our time--the Super Jumbos, the J-45, the Hummingbird, the Dove. There is no mistaking the classic, gold block script logo, stamped onto the face of the headstock, with the period-correct banner "Only A Gibson Is Good Enough" directly underneath it. It represents more than a century of originality and excellence. There is simply no equal.
Nickel Gotoh White Button Tuners Gibson's J-45 True Vintage features Gotoh's nickel white button tuners. With a gear ratio of 15:1, these nickel Gotoh tuners deliver precision tuning in a durable housing that provides maximum protection for the gear and string post. All moving parts are cut for exact meshing, eliminating the possibility of slippage, with a special lubricant inside the gear box for smooth and accurate tuning stability.
Pickguard The pickguard for the J-45 True Vintage is Gibson's standard plain tortoise tear drop shape, which has been used on the J-45 since its introduction in 1942. As with all of Gibson's pickguards, the coloring, inlay, and binding are all done by hand.
Tapered Dovetail Neck Joint The dovetail neck joint is one of the oldest--and best--ways of securely joining the neck to the body of a guitar. It is also a complex and expensive neck joint to build, but the result is a tight, locking connection that supports the neck at the proper neck-pitch angle, allowing the body and neck to become one solid piece of resonating wood, with no metal to impede vibration. This process is done entirely by hand, requiring patience and skill.
Rosette A rosette is the beautiful, hand-crafted circle around the soundhole, and can be one of the most ornamental elements of any acoustic guitar. It is also one of the most subtle and complicated woodworking decorations on any acoustic guitar. The rosette on the J-45 True Vintage is a simple single-ring rosette consisting of three-ply binding, adding a stylish, understated elegance to the J-45 True Vintage.
Rosewood Fingerboard with Traditional Binding and Classic Dot Inlays The fingerboard of Gibson's J-45 Vintage is constructed from the highest grade Madagascar rosewood on earth, which is personally inspected and qualified by Gibson's team of skilled experts before it enters the Gibson factories. The resilience of this durable wood makes the fingerboard extremely balanced and stable, and gives each chord and note unparalleled clarity and bite. The J-45's classic dot inlays are made of genuine mother of pearl, and are inserted into the fingerboard using a process that eliminates gaps and doesn't require the use of fillers. The fingerboard also sports traditional binding over the fret ends, which was a staple feature of many classic Gibson acoustics for many years.
Body Tonewoods (back, sides and top) The top of the J-45 True Vintage is made from top-grade Adirondack red spruce, while the back and sides are constructed from pattern grade Honduran mahogany, giving the J-45 True Vintage the same full, balanced expression, warm bass, and excellent projection that earned the original J-45 its much-heralded reputation. Selecting the right wood, and the formula to dry it out, are two of the most central procedures to Gibson's guitar-building process. Beginning with its first catalog in 1903, Gibson has assured its customers that every guitar would be built using woods with "the most durable, elastic, and sonorous qualities," and today's guitars from Gibson Acoustic are no different.
Bracing Every acoustic guitar made by Gibson features hand-scalloped, radiused top bracing inside the body, a feature normally found only in limited run, hand-made guitars. By scalloping each brace by hand, the natural sound of the acoustic is focused more toward the center of the body, enhancing the instrument's sound projection. The J-45 True Vintage features a variation of Gibson's "X" bracing pattern situated behind the soundhole, with a set of tall and thin braces for the back, and scalloped tall and thin braces for the top, all bonded with hot hide glue. This legendary bracing design--exactly as it appeared in the first J-45 in 1942--delivers a balanced expression, with punchy, deep lows, warm mids, and clear, crisp highs. When pushed for more volume, the J-45 True Vintage projects a natural compression, which helps it blend nicely with any accompaniment.
Radius Top The top of many "flat-top" guitars are under a lot of stress from the pull of the strings, which can eventually compromise the top. So, while most acoustic guitars are true "flat-top" guitars, all of the acoustics produced by Gibson in Bozeman, Montana have a radiused, or "tuned" top. Instead of being perfectly flat, a radiused or "tuned" top is raised slightly, and a special instrument is used to shape the top braces to the radius of the top. This process adds tension and strengthens the top, creating a less stressful joint where the top meets the sides and reducing the stresses of string pull. It also results in a "speaker cone" effect that maximizes sound projection, adding a significant boost to mid-range levels for a more balanced acoustic tone.
Nitrocellulose Finish Applying a nitrocellulose finish to any Gibson acoustic guitar--including the J-45 True Vintage--is one of the most labor-intensive elements of the guitar-making process. Unlike the polyurethane finishes used by many guitar manufacturers, a nitrocellulose lacquer finish is porous when cured, allowing the wood to naturally "breathe" and mature. Microscopically thin, the finish on a Gibson acoustic guitar first requires seven main coats of nitrocellulose lacquer. After drying overnight, the initial seven coats are then level sanded and given two additional coats. Left to dry for five additional days, the finish is then wet sanded and buffed to its final glass-like sheen. The time-consuming nature of applying a nitro finish has been employed ever since the first Gibson guitar was swathed with lacquer back in 1894. Why? For starters, a nitro finish means there is less interference with the natural vibration of the instrument, allowing for a purer tone. It's also a softer finish, making it easily repairable. You can touch up a scratch or ding on a nitro finish, but you can't do the same on a poly finish.
Body Binding In general, a guitar's binding serves as a cosmetic feature, adding a subtle elegance to any Gibson acoustic while hiding the joints between the top, back, and sides, and helping to protect the guitar's body from any nicks or dings. But to see the process of putting the binding on a Gibson acoustic is to really appreciate the effort and attention put into each instrument. After the body has been glued together, the excess from the top and back are trimmed off and a groove is cut for the binding. The binding is then glued on and held on to the body using tape, and hung to dry. When the tape comes off, any excess glue is removed and the body is moved into the next phase of production. It has been done the same way for over 100 years, and is a fundamental part of Gibson Acoustic's rich guitar-making history.

Silver Creek T-170 Acoustic Guitar, Natural Review

Silver Creek T-170 Acoustic Guitar, Natural
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had just finished reading the book "Clapton's Guitar" so you may understand why I was blown away by an all-solid wood 000/OM acoustic guitar for next to nothing.
Thinking I would tell my wife it was for "market survey" all the while I was secretly drooling over what might arrive. (I'm in the building end).
Back and sides were a beautiful straight-grained Indian Rosewood.
The top is maybe an "A" grade Engelmann top and is punchy like Adirondac Spruce.
The inside bracing and kerfing are clean and sans glue squeeze out.
The backstrip, inside the box, is a very tight-grained Spruce and looks perfect.
Bridge is cleanly done.
The mahogany neck feels slightly boaty with a "V" shape but still very playable.
String spacing is generous and it's easy to hit all the notes.
The neck is stained dark and has a volute,
both Martin style. No buzzing but after the action is lowered it will need a neck adjustment or vice versa.
Peghead Inlay looks CNC'd and is perfectly done.
The finish is gloss and is very well done and polished without the usual wavy lines prevalent in cheap and poorly done high-end guitars.
The Tuners remind me of small Waverly's.. But!
Frets are cleanly done but could use a polish.
The action is too high and the saddle should be replaced with a
Martin Saddle seated flat into the bridge slot and intonated.
The nut seemed fine.
All in all, setup aside, this guitar is awesome with beautiful Tone!
and plenty of 000 vibe!
I was able to coax some very sweet notes from this guitar!
Even with the stock strings.
Now for the bad part: I should of bought two!
All this for "Market Survey"!
Someone has to do it!

Silver Creek D-170 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar, Natural Review

Silver Creek D-170 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar, Natural
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well I have spent about about three weeks with my Silver Creek Dread and here are my thoughts -
Let me start out by saying if you think you are getting a Martin D-28 clone with this guy - You really are not.
I have read that the Silver Creeks are made in the same Chinese Factory as the Recording Kings - but with lesser appointments - and to be sold through one main retailer.
Out of the box the SC was playable and attractive and the Tone was not bad - So I will break down what I liked and what I did not like. Keep in mind this is my opinion!
1. First of all out of the box the guitar was playable - But Defiantly in need of a set up - action was pretty high past the third fret.
2. After looking up and down and inside and out the only imperfection I could find was about a dime size dust spot on the back under the Laquer - Quality control was a little lacking.
3. The Guitar comes with a Bone nut an saddle - The nut was cut very well but you might need to shave a little off the saddle.
4. The Headstock is a flat top/ Martin Style with a nice Flower Vase/ abalone inlay - Though I must say - after close inspection some of the Letters in Silver Creek are crooked.
5. The Tuners - I have read many complaints here - I find the Kluson knockoffs attractive and useable but again only time will tell.
6. The neck is solid Mahogany with a Dyed black rosewood fretboard - The Fret work seemed surpurb and I felt really shined - Nice Job!
7. The Bridge is solid Rosewood and again dyed black - Well placed and solid adherence to the top.
8. The top is Solid Sitka Spruce or possibly Englemann spruce! Very nice Grain - No run out - It does have vintage Toner applied - I like that - some folks don't.
9. The back and sides are solid Rosewood with very nice striping. Beautiful work with the exception of the blem I mentioned earlier.
10. The back and top are Bound with ivoroid binding - nice work done here. And some nice purfling on the top side.
11. The Rosette is "28" inspired and nicely done.
12. The pickguard is red tortise like and nicely cut- very Martin like.
13. Bridge pins are plastic - White/black dot and totally useable/ Think Gibson - End pin White/black dot totally secure.
14. Internal look over - Foward bracing - scalloped struts and some small wood shavings. Overall pretty clean.
15. Neck Shape - has been refered to as V - If its V - it is a Soft V - Feels more D shaped to me.
16. The Guitar has a nice Gloss finish - not over done like some users have mentioned - I would say on par with Martin Std series Guitars.
Presently I have it strung with Martin Lights - Sounds good but will probely experiment with other Strings.
Sound - Tone -- If your expecting Martin tones to come flowing out of the sound hole you might be a little disapointed. Though the volume and Bass on this model is decent - not really a Cannon though.
Bottomline - The Silver Creek has " Its own Tone" I am sure Great to some and so/so to others - Only you can decide.
I purchased this Guitar mainly because I wanted a well built Dreadnaught Guitar for a very affordable dollar - And If I had the extra money I would have with out a doubt put it into a Martin
Bottom line-- dollar for dollar I don't think you can find a Better Dreadnaught for the Price!!!!

I went to Guitar Center in Springfield to purchase a Yamaha FG700S. While testing the guitar, I noticed a blemished Dean Spalted Maple -I've never heard of Dean in my home country. I gave it a try and and thought it matched some guitars there with big price tag of thousands of dollars.
I left GC without purchase as they only had a blemished Dean guitar.
I decided to puchase this Exotic Walnut online and I was highly impressed when it arrived. The strings are all new (D'addario) and unplayed. Guitar is flawless: neck is straight as can be, body is scratch free and shiny after dust removal.
The sound is great, action came perfect: At 12th fret 3/32" 6th string and 2/32" for the 1st E. Few guitars at this price come with quality like this.
I love the Mini-Jumbo design compared to a Dreadnought which is too big for me.
I LOVE DEAN. I got my WINGS.

Blueridge BR-43 Contemporary 000 Guitar
Average Reviews:

I bought this guitar on "Black Friday", received it within a couple of days, and have enjoyed playing since then. It is a small 000 sized body, with mahogany back and sides (laminate) and bone nut and saddle (nice touch). Very comfortable thin style neck. While no one is going to mistake it for a Martin, it's an excellent player, was set up well right out of the box, and is a terrific guitar for just picking up on the spur of the moment. I replaced the strings with a set of Elixer medium-light (slightly heavier wound strings), which helped bring out the bass a bit more. Someday I'll likely replace it with a Martin, etc., but for now it's a terrific "couch" guitar that gets picked up and played a lot.

Wow! Greatest buy I have made in a long time! I have played guitar for over 13yrs. I can't believe this was such a good deal I was a little sceptical of getting ripped off because I thought it was to good to be true. Well I got my guitar & it is exactly what I wanted Brand new in the box! My new Dean looks great for under $300.00 it's a steal. It's not quite deep as my acoustic but most acoustic/electrics aren't. It is a little tinny sounding but for the price with a digital on board tuner & chord scale key it is great! Change out the strings to one of your own liking, for me I prefer something a little deeper.. maybe some earneball super slinky'S 10's ;) "Check out GuitarCenter reviews on this Dean" BUY it at Amazon I saved about $100!!!

I was looking for a bluegrass type drednaught that would cut through in a jam situation. I bough this for the solid spruce top an rosewood sides and back (laminated but thats fine with me). When I recieved it the action was way to high and the intonation was bad. If I rated it then it would have been a 3 but after I took the bone saddle off and filed it down and reshaped it a little the action and intonation were great, 5 minute fix! I have owned thousand dollar guitars and played a lot more ( taylors, martins, guild ect,) and this guitar is alive with sound, nice and punchy with good bass and great highs, just what I wanted and better than I expected for the price. the pickgaurd sucks but I took mine off and it looks good that way. If I start to scratch it Ill throw a cheap one on it.

Blueridge BR-140 Historic Dreadnaught Guitar Review

Blueridge BR-140 Historic Dreadnaught Guitar
Average Reviews:

This guitar is easy to play and has a quiet fullness that's really nice when you don't want the guitar to step on the vocals. The price is coming down to more like where it belongs. The tuning keys are definitely a step above the ordinary - smooth and solid. One negative which maybe they've fixed (mine's five years old): It came with one undersized wooden shoulder-strap button, like a large string button, that fell out when the glue dried, and the hole is too large to replace it with a regular metal button. I keep meaning to re-glue the wooden button but just keep pushing it back in. What draws me most to this guitar is its soft, balanced sound.

Received on third business day after ordering. Just out of the box the glossy Rosewood back and sides are very very impressive. It is light weight and very easy to hold and play. NO additional set-up required as far as I'am conserned. It has a loud crisp base and balanced treble sound. The bone nut and saddle give it a great sound. Action is low and easy to play. It sounds just as good through my acoustic amp. The 14:1 tuning keys hold the strings in tune and it is easy to treek the note when tuning. Would definately recommend you check this guitar out, as you may like it as well or better than guitars costing two or there times as much.

I bought this for my son for Christmas. It sounds great and does all that he wanted it to do. We had looked elsewhere for the same product and they wanted at least $100.00 more. Will buy again.

Silver Creek T-160 Acoustic Guitar, Natural Review

Silver Creek T-160 Acoustic Guitar, Natural
Average Reviews:

I've been playing a few years. Two years back I invested in a Martin EC00028, it is beautiful as you would expect for guitar priced over £2K. Having got used to the slightly wider fretboard on the Martin (1 & 3/4 inches as opposed to your standard 1 & 11/16" at the nut), I was looking for a similar sized cheaper guitar that I would be comfortable knocking around with on the beach or at parties etc.. My choices of guitars with this same fretboard dimentions was limited to say the least. In fact, there was only one other that fit the bill and pleased me asthetically (the name escapes me now).
So, about a year ago I called the only stockist of this make, which happened to be in the U.S, to order one. At the time it was priced at only $199.00, so I was happy to take the risk of not playing before I purchased (which can obviously be dodgey at the best of times). To cut a very long and irritating story short, the U.S shop refused to courier the guitar to the U.K. and the manufacturer was not able to supply direct from China. I had to first send the item from the shop in the U.S to a friend in Canada (which involved paying additional tax) and then from there to me in the U.K. By the time I had finished I had paid around £150 to get a $199 guitar to the U.K. What an idiot right? - Wrong!
Without doubt it has been my favourite guitar ever. I wouldn't swap it for my martin, but only because of the £'s involved. The build quality on mine is excellent and the woods used (solid top, back and sides!)are really quite outstanding for the price. The tones honestly match that of the martin. I tweeked mine a little, some decent strings and lowering the action a fraction and just loved it.
If you are looking for a guitar in this price range and like a slightly wider fretboard, buy this one, I've not come across anything at this cost to beat it. Genuinely a great bit of kit.

Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar,Heritage Cherryburst Review

Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar,Heritage Cherryburst
Average Reviews:

I rate the Epiphone Hummingbird guitar 5 stars. I own this insturment. The guitar is manufactured in China by the Gibson Corporation and when it arrives in the United States the guitar is setup by professionals to Gibsons specifacations using light gage acoustic guitar strings .012 - 0.53. I purchased this guitar only as a backup guitar in case my Martin Guitar failed. The setup on this guitar from Epiphone was far better than my Martin Guitar. Out of the box the guitar chords were very easy to play. The back and sides are laminated mahogany and the top is solid spruce wood. The sound of this guitar is impressive. It produces a sound as good as a $2,000 dollar Martin Guitar.
