G&L Tribute Legacy HB Guitar (Natural Gloss, Hard Rock Rosewood Neck) Review

GandL Tribute Legacy HB Guitar (Natural Gloss, Hard Rock Rosewood Neck)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the first guitar I have ever bought sight unseen from the internet. The quality of the electronics are fantastic. the GL handwound pickups are miles ahead of any stock pickups I have ever played on. The PTB system lets you dial in many different sounds because of its adjustment range.
I get comments about how good this guitar looks every at every club I visit.
It is not a perfect guitar, however. Out of the box, the frets need sanding and polishing big time. Very gritty feel that eats up your high E and B strings from bends. There were a few small places on top where the poly gathered and probably dripped from as the guitar hung to dry..only seen by me, cause I know where this spot is. Also, my input jack has become loose. An easy fix, but these little annoyances should have been dealt with at the factory.
Sound and tone-wise, it is great. All the strat quack you want. Splittable humbucker in the back really gets it close to a slanted-back strat pickup.
Humbucker full on is great..plenty of growl and is able to do some serious rockin'. Great output and really pushes an amp hard vs the single coils.

The schecter omen 6 is a great instrument. The fixed bridge makes changing the strings much easier than other guitars. The guitar sounds great distorted and has a decent clean sound. For the price this is a fantastic instrument. Its very sturdy and durable. I've owned this guitar for 5 years and it still plays just like the day I bought it. I've upgraded to a Gibson SG since purchasing this guitar but it is still one of the best deals around for a guitarist who wants to play more rock or metal. It has a sleek simple look and plays like a champ.

Dean Exotica Quilted Maple Acousticic/Electric Cutaway Guitar, Tiger Eye Review

Dean Exotica Quilted Maple Acousticic/Electric Cutaway Guitar, Tiger Eye
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bought this guitar in May 2010. I'm a beginner-intermediate guitar player.

Pros:
1. Great looks with high quality finishes. The quilted maple really adds appeal here. The iridescent pearl inlays around the body top edge, rosette and fretboard just makes it the more impressive.
2. Sounds good. Has good bright tone expected from a maple top & bodied guitar with decent loudness.
3. Quality seems top notch: the tuners, frets, overall craftmanship, no loose parts, no fret buzzez.
4. Action is just right with an adjustable neck
5. Good electronic pickup. For 2010 Dean has the I2NR pickup instead (no aphex exciter tho). I've played live plugged in at church service several times and I'm very satisfied with the sound the pickup gives. The 4 band EQ gives plenty of flexibility. No feedback issues, no hissing. The tuner works well but is not chromatic so won't help in case you want to detune say the low E to a D.
Cons:
1. For 2010 it seems the top's sunburst effect look is much more pronounced. I'd prefer the looks of the 2009 shown. The sunburst effect starts from 100% black to the orange-brown color seen in the picture.
2. Sound is brighter and more metallic than I'd like and not as loud as other dreadnought/jumbo guitars. I have some Elixir Polywebs to mellow it down to taste: Elixir Strings Acoustic Guitar Strings, 6 String, Light POLYWEB Coating
3. Construction seems to be of maple veneer/ply wood instead of solid maple. Well .. you get what you pay for.
4. No pick guard around sound hole. Added a transparent one that I found online.
Overall seems to be a bright sounding guitar with good electronics and awesome looks worth twice its price.

I went into a music store and wanted to buy a Gibson 335.They had 4 of these on the rack. After all these years I'm still amazed at how well this gutar plays.Simply put it does exactaly what you tell it to do and the action is so easy. The 335 covers the musical spectrum easily.I paid $850 back then and today I can't afford to replace it.I will die with it before I sell it. History speaks for itself. The ES-335 is one of the most important guitars of all time. Right from its introduction in 1958 as the world's first semi-hollowbody electric guitar it has been a mainstay of players eager to balance the gorgeous, round, mellow tones perfect for jazz and blues with the edge and sustain of a full-blooded solidbody.

Countless music legends have immortalized Gibson's ES-335.

Today the Gibson Custom Shop creates exacting duplicates of the ES-335 as it first left the Kalamazoo plant in 1958. That year just 267 were built, but the original vintage 335s grew steadily in popularity, peaking in 1967 thanks largely to Eric Clapton's high-profile use of a cherry ES-335 in the band Cream.
Body and Finishes The Custom Shop ES-335 is available with many finish options, reflecting the color choices that have evolved over the model's 50-year history. In Satin finish, trans black and cherry colors are available, with a plain maple top, back, and rims. Ebony is available only in plain maple. With the figured maple top, back, and rims option, cherry, tri-burst, antique natural, light burst, and vintage sunburst colors are available. Wine red, trans brown, Beale Street Blue, and cinnamon burst finishes are also available in limited quantities, along with gold hardware, for figured and for plain maple models.
Regardless of color, the ES-335 retains its classic proportions: 16 1/2-inches wide, 20-inches long, and 1 3/4-inches deep. The neck is one-piece mahogany beneath a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearloid inlays and a single-ply binding. Additionally, there's single-ply binding on the top and back.
Hardware All hardware is nickel, and there's a classic ABR-1 bridge with a lightweight aluminum stopbar tailpiece. Neck length is 24 3/4 inches with a 1 11/16-inch nut width. Satin finish models have vintage style tulip shaped tuners, while figured and plain tops come with Grover kidney-shaped tuners. All Custom Shop ES-335s have powerful '57 Classic humbucking pickups, two volume pots, two tone pots, and a three-way pickup selector switch. They are strung with Gibson Brite Wire .010 strings and come safely nestled in a black levant case.
Famous Players Spanning numerous decades, the ES-335 has been in the hands of countless musicians. From Chuck Berry's numerous performances to Alvin Lee's incendiary performance at Woodstock to Police's 2008 tour in NYC, the ES-335 has been the instrument of choice for any players seeking gorgeous, round, mellow tones, tempered with the edge and sustain of a full-blooded solidbody electric like the Les Paul.
Nitrocellulose Finish Applying a nitrocellulose finish to any Gibson guitar is one of the most labor-intensive elements of the guitar-making process. A properly applied nitro finish requires extensive man hours, several evenly applied coats, and an exorbitant amount of drying time. But this fact has never swayed Gibson into changing this time-tested method, employed ever since the first Gibson guitar was swathed with lacquer back in 1894. Why? For starters, a nitro finish dries to a much thinner coat than a polyurethane finish, which means there is less interference with the natural vibration of the instrument, allowing for a purer tone. A nitro finish is also a softer finish, which makes it easily repairable. You can touch up a scratch or ding on a nitro finish, but you can't do the same on a poly finish. In addition, a nitro finish is very porous in nature, and actually gets thinner over time. It does not "seal" wood in an airtight shell--as a poly finish does--and allows the wood to breathe and age properly.
All VOS (Vintage Original Spec) series guitars will use a proprietary process that includes unique steps for staining, wet-sanding, and hand-rubbing; subsequently the guitars reflect what a well-cared for 40-year-old guitar looks like. The result is a remarkable patina that will delight even the most discriminating enthusiast.

DBZ Guitars Imperial ST Electric Guitar, Black Review

This guitar usually sells new for $749 with case. This price on Amazon doesn't include a case, but I didn't need one. It's very nice and thin which lets it resonate nicely in your hands. Good sounding pickups. Arrived needing neck and bridge adjustment, so lucky I can do that. I like that it is a different kind of design, not a Les Paul or Strat type. Plug it in with a good pedal and it sings. Have at it.

Godin 5th Avenue Archtop Jazz-Style Acoustic Guitar (Cognac Burst) Review

Godin 5th Avenue Archtop Jazz-Style Acoustic Guitar (Cognac Burst)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This guitar was amazing right out of the box. I was leery of buying a guitar on-line, sight-unseen primarily because I knew I would have to deal with setting it up myself. My first surprise was the guitar was nearly in tune already! I fine-tuned it and checked the intonation of each string at the 12th fret using an electronic tuner. Every string was perfect. The action and neck relief were already set just to my liking (there's plenty of differnce in personal preference on this point, but it was clear that the person who made the adjustments cared about getting it right). In short, the guitar came out of the box ready to play.
Pictures of this guitar do not do it justice. My cognac burst model is absolutely beautiful. Its lines and proportions speak elegance and many small details put it in a class with much more expensive guitars. The satin finish gives the guitar a very rich woody feel. The wild cherry of the body is boldly grained and the grain is enhanced with a subtle undercoat of dark pore-filler. The grain is bookmatched (identical on either side of the center line) on front, back and sides. The headstock shape is reminiscent of classic Gibsons but much narrower again adding to the elegance. The use of a 17 degree headstock angle (also reminiscent of classic Gibsons) provides for a strong break angle at the nut while contributing to the guitar's dramatic profile. The headstock's high-gloss black face is off-set by a narrow band of cream around the edge and a tortise-shell truss rod cover matching the pick guard. The neck is bolted on (a technique pioneered in high-end Taylor guitars) and "floats" where it meets the body allowing the top full freedom to vibrate. And the sound? Amazing! I have had the guitar for a month now and I can not get enough of playing it. I had thought I would use it for a few swing-type number I play with my band, but I am using it for everything. The tone is full and balanced and, as other reviews have said, "woody." The volume is amazing from such a compact box (only 3 inches deep). The projection and sustain are incredible, strongly developed upper partials add to the resonance, and the guitar is a canon when miked at the lower f-hole. I could go on, buy to keep it short I'll say this guitar is worth far, far more than I paid for it. I don't know how Godin did it but they've created a work of art that anyone can afford. Amazing! BTW this guitar fits perfectly in the Musicians Gear Deluxe Hardshell Dreadnaught case and it looks great in the tweed version which I bought.

The 5th Avenue is Godin's take on the archtop jazz-style acoustic, complete with classic looks: Canadian cherry in a polished burst finish, a floating pickgaurd and cream binding, and the requisite F-holes. But with modern touches like a height-adjustable Tusq bridge by Graphtech, it definitely lets you keep one foot in the past and the other firmly in the present.

A Modern Update on a Vintage Gem
The Godin 5th Avenue brings you back to a time when the archtop acoustic guitar reigned supreme. With the soul of a 1950's archtop, the 5th Avenue is a true vintage spirit of yesterday with today's level of modern playability. With more projection and volume in the low/mids than traditional archtop acoustic guitars, the dynamically rich tone of the 5th Avenue makes this sophisticated instrument a dream to play, but not a nightmare to pay for. From Alt-Country, Delta Blues, Slide, Jazz to Rock, the 5th Avenue can really deliver.

Luna Fauna Acoustic Guitar, Dragon Review

Luna Fauna Acoustic Guitar, Dragon

I shopped all over town and found one store that carries Luna, but did not have the Luna Fauna Dragon. They had the Moth and the Dragon Fly as well as the Henna Guitars all by Luna. I was still a little worried to order this guitar online as not many people carry them.... they are new. The other Luna's I did see in person were great and all sounded amazing, but I was concerned on the sound quality as Luna has lowered the price on these...but they are trying to break into an old established market. This guitar will not disappoint. Its sounds as good if not better than it looks. I took the chance and bought it online and very happy with this purchase as it is better than I thought, it's so beautiful yet it sounds as good as my Alvarez Fusion! I would have been happy even if it didn't sound top notch, but no, Luna did not disappoint me, this is my Christmas present this year and my best gift to date.
I hope stores start to carry these amazing instruments as this company is one I hope stays in the market.

Yamaha YPG-235 76-Key Portable Grand Piano Premium Pack Review

Yamaha YPG-235 76-Key Portable Grand Piano Premium Pack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received this keyboard on 2/2/11. As always, I was impressed with how quickly I received my order from Amazon.com. However, within minutes of setting up the keyboard, I noticed that two keys on the right side of the keyboard didn't work. One key simply didn't work AT ALL, and one key seemed to have a short and would only play after pressing it like 3 or 4 times in a row. Amazon is making it easy to return/exchange this keyboard, so I'm hopeful that the replacement is decent. However, after this experience and reading other reviews online of this exact problem, I am very concerned about the build quality of this keyboard, despite having heard good things over the years about Yamaha.
I'll update this review after I receive the replacement in a week or so. Hopefully I won't have to switch to another brand, but Casio maybe the next one I look at (need to keep this purchase affordable).
UPDATE: I received a replacement keyboard in record time: less than 2 days! I was at first bummed that I wouldn't be able to test the new keyboard over the weekend, but Amazon got the replacement out immediately and it was here early Friday afternoon (I had only submitted the return early Wednesday evening). Amazon did create some confusion, however, by on the one hand telling me that UPS would be picking up the defective keyboard from my house, and then e-mailing me a label and instructions for dropping the keyboard off at a local UPS center. Then UPS added to the confusion when I called to confirm the pick-up at my house: they said that one hadn't been arranged. So then I bring the keyboard to a UPS center, and then find a UPS pick-up attempt label on my door. Whatever...I got the defective keyboard to UPS and back to Amazon.
As for the keyboard: it sounds great. I've only just begun to play around with it, but the keys feel good, and the variety of quality sounds is incredible. I'll be combining this keyboard with Ableton Live Intro to create music. I spent several hours after receiving the keyboard testing the keys (I was concerned after the defective unit) and checking out the various functions. I haven't even scratched the surface yet, but I am giving the keyboard a decent rating. I'll report back if my opinion changes over time.
The headphones that were included with this package deal are ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. It's not worth my time to return them, especially since I already went through the hassle of returning the entire first keyboard package. The right channel of the headphones didn't work AT ALL right out of the package. These no-name, god-awful headphones are already in the trash. I ordered the package to get the power adapter and the stand anyway, so it's not a big lose. Still, you don't like to feel ripped off in any way.
The stand that came with this package is quite sturdy. It certainly isn't anything fancy, but it was easy to put together and it seems strong enough to last years.

If you're looking for a reasonably priced piano replacement, look no further than the YPG-235. It is the music student or professional musicians' answer to 'I need more keys!" and many music teachers encourage new students to get a keyboard that will grow with their needs. It features 76 non-weighted keys that not only look like piano keys but have a Graded Soft Touch (GST) action with different levels of resistance, making it easier for a budding musician to move to an acoustic or digital piano. The YPG-235 delivers on its piano theme with a special mode of fingering called Full Keyboard Mode. This allows the player to play the keyboard like a piano; for example a chord with the right hand and bass notes with the left. When using the accompaniment feature, the virtual band will follow these chords. Traditional portable keyboards normally require you to chord on the left side of the keyboard, in the bass section, which is foreign to most piano players. The YPG-235 is also capable of this mode, for those who prefer it.The YPG-235 also has 30 built-in songs plus 70 more on included CD-ROM for you to learn to play using the Yamaha Education Suite. The songs are separated into left and right hand parts, providing 7 levels of lessons plus a convenient chord dictionary. This package includes a pair of professional closed-cup headphones, X-style keyboard stand, and power supply.

New Natural Electric Acoustic Bass Guitar W/ Equalizer Review

New Natural Electric Acoustic Bass Guitar W/ Equalizer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I don't see why so many people are giving this positive reviews, I guess my expectations were just too high for such a cheap price on an instrument.
I made a dumb move and sold my old bass which was $600. I missed the bass and decided to buy this as a cheap alternative so I could at least practice, plus I thought it'd be cool to try an acoustic. Unfortunately like the majority of items Ive bought, The more money paid the better quality received.
My first impressions upon looking at it were good, A normal sized bass, completely polished. When I examined it better I noticed it had some minor blemishes where the neck meets the frame, some small paint chips on the higher frets, Also the wooden piece on the body that holds the strings was unpolished which looks a little cheaper. Still the blemishes are small and the majority of people wouldn't notice them, especially if they're just watching you play. So the look of the bass is about a 4/5
When I started playing it, I was immediately disappointed. The tone wasn't as professional as I'd hoped, It sounds a bit cheap and boring. The worst thing to me is the tension of the strings are too loose. Not so loose that there flopping around but definitely loose enough that its going to annoy a bassist with some experience. A first timer may actually prefer this but your better off in the long run having a stronger tension in the strings. You'll move faster and it'll feel and sound better. I bought new strings thinking maybe the manufacture could only afford really cheap strings with this model. But after paying $20 for new strings and trying them on it makes no difference. The tones slightly different but they're still lose and it sounds cheap.
This bass won't appeal to the majority of people. If you or your child is new at bass I can understand the attraction to this bass because of the price. Its half the price of most starter models and you don't need to buy an amp, so for a small minority of people it might work. For a brand new musician this might suffice for 6 months or so. Its sturdy enough to practice on. The only thing to consider is if the sound quality isn't as good, you may not be as encouraged to play.
It might seem like I'm being harsh, maybe I am considering the price I suppose its nice that an option like this is available.
If your a bassist with some experience who is tempted to buy this as a cheap acoustic for some variety, or a guitarist who wants a bass, Don't buy this.
It's worth forking over $200-$300 for a starter bass that is more fun to play and has a good solid sound that's worth using and practicing on.

Fender Classic Series '72 Telecaster Deluxe Electric Guitar, Walnut Review

Fender Classic Series '72 Telecaster Deluxe Electric Guitar, Walnut
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Recently I purchased one of these after being up in the air over the Fender Blacktop model Telecaster and the '72 Deluxe. While the Blacktop seemed like the more consumer friendly purchase, and a good buy, I ultimately picked this guitar for its good looks and build quality. The maple neck on the '72 is glossy and unlike the rosewood fretboards I have played in the past. The tuners are ill-reputed, but I have not had problems with the guitar falling out of tune. Ultimately, however, people buy this guitar for the Fender Wide Range Humbucker pickups, and they sound versatile and nice. The Blacktop humbuckers have been described as 'hotter' and more forward-seeming. This seems true to me, while the '72 may have a warmer tonal quality. The only problem I have been having is the slightly 'dark' sound of the Wide Range pickups being too thick. Various people report upgrading the pots in the '72 to 500k in the volume to give more presence. This is an inexpensive repair which I have not made yet but plan to. I think, though, in the right rig, with a decent amp, this guitar is a solid buy, and a lot of fun to play.

Godin Session Electric Guitar - Vintage Burst SG RN Review

Godin Session Electric Guitar - Vintage Burst SG RN
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I liked the Godin Session so much that I trade my natural ash USA 1993 Strat for one straight up from the local music store. I don't know who makes their picups, but the single coils tone is superior to the stock fender USA pickups on my '93. It also has a Humbucking pickup in the bridge position that can be split to a single coil if you want a complete standard stra sound. I'm not sure if the pickups are actually louder than the fender, but they sure sound better, especially the neck pickup. I don't know how good their humbuckers are either. I know at one time, Godin had their pickups made by Seymor Duncan. I don't know who or where they are now made. They are certainly more than adequate.
The best part is the maple neck which is more comfortable and faster than the Stat's was. For anyone looking for a great electric solid body for short money, you can't go wrong with the Session. The tolerences seem tighter and the whole guitar seems to be better constucted than my Stat was. I highly recommend this guitar.

Just stumbled on a couple of the other reviews of this guitar. I got mine for $249 - and it's a bargain! Guitar sounds great - and looks fantastic. Just had mine setup for the first time - I've had it about 3 months - and it only required some minor truss tightening - also replaced the strings - since I'd worn out the initial set. This is a wonderful instrument - at a very reasonable price.

THis guitar is by far, one of the best I ahve ever played. The look of a telecaster, with a hybrid telecaster/stratocaster sound, and just gorgeous, stunning, astounding looks of all black and chrome. Do yourself a favor, by this guitar. I use it for metal, blues, rock, indie, folk, everything you can think of.
