B.C. Rich Kerry King Metal Master V Generation 2 Guitar, Black with Tribal Graphic Review

B.C. Rich Kerry King Metal Master V Generation 2 Guitar, Black with Tribal Graphic
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this on a lark when it showed up as a Gold Box deal one day for half its normal price. I've long had a hankering for a V-shaped guitar ever since having my mind bent by Michael Schenker and his Gibson Flying V with UFO circa 1982, and this seemed like a good opportunity to finally feed that Jones.
This made-in-China BC Rich is cosmetically quite nice. The high gloss finish is pristine, the tribal graphic is flashy without quite crossing the line to gaudy, the chrome is shiny, the many pointy corners arrived unchipped, and the frets are reasonably well-dressed. The only minor quibble I have with appearance is the mild splotchiness of the rosewood fretboard.
Functionally, however, this guitar feels decidedly mediocre for the following reasons:
- The action was buzzy on the low E, though that was easily fixed by raising the bridge a bit.
- The intonation, on the other hand, could not quite be dialed in -- I cannot simultaneously get both the high and low strings intonated correctly. I had to set the bridge to a compromise position where neither the high strings nor low strings are exactly right.
- The tuners are mediocre at keeping the guitar in tune from session to session.
- The BDSM (that's Broad Dynamic Sonically Matched, you perverts) humbuckers' tone is quite unremarkable, and there is not much difference between the neck and bridge pickups. That in combination with the single tone control means there is not a very broad range of tones possible with this guitar. I suppose BC Rich assumed that this guitar would only be played through heavy distortion effects, and that this wouldn't be a serious drawback.
Had I paid full price for this guitar, I'd probably feel pretty grumpy every time I looked at it. At its Gold Box price, however, I'm pretty happy to just look at this pretty piece of eye candy hanging on the wall. Fortunately, I have several better guitars to pick up for actually playing.

Featuring Kerry King's own Generation 2 tribal graphic design over gloss black, a wrap-around bridge, and two B.C. Rich B.D.S.M. humbucker pickups, the Metal Master V2 is a force to be reckoned with. Get ready to break some eardrums without breaking the bank.

The B.C. Rich Metal Master SeriesThe Metal Master Series comprises the most affordable Kerry King models available from B.C. Rich. Featuring Generation 1 & 2 tribal designs influenced by Kerry's tats, these axes boast B.C. Rich humbucker pickups, rosewood fingerboards, wrap-around bridges, and vicious body and headstock shapes. The stuff of Kings.

Basswood Body With Beveled TopBasswood provides a warmer tone than maple and other hardwoods, along with great low-end response, and is overall a lightweight wood. It's perfect for "V" style body shapes just like this one.

The "Generation 2" tribal graphic on gloss black is the icing on the cake.

Beveled TopMost of B.C. Rich's body styles employ a beveled edge around the shape, including this one. In many ways bevels on a top are similar to facets on a cut stone. They catch the light and reflect at different angles, giving the instrument more of a three dimensional look. Some of the B.C. Rich top bevels are extreme and wide while others are subtle and narrow. Occasionally the shape of the instrument is accented by painting the bevels a contrasting color.

Bolt-on ConstructionA number of B.C. Rich guitars use a classic Bolt-on construction. On these instruments a neck (typically maple) is bolted on with 4 screws to the body. This construction offers some added flexibility in the instruments adjustment and provides the option to change the neck in the future.

The Metal master V2 features a maple neck with an ultra-playable natural satin finish, and a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dot inlays. The "V" body shape makes access to higher notes a breeze, so you can shred away in that upper register without any problems.

B.C. Rich BDSM PickupsB.C. Rich designed their BDSM humbucking pickups to provide a solid sound and to be durable while delivering high output. BDSM stands for Broad Dynamic Sonically Matched. Which simply means that the pickup is designed to reproduce a wide range of frequencies accurately (broad dynamic). Then they are tested and matched in pairs (Neck and Bridge) by their inherent individual and signature tonal and output characteristics to give a solidly balanced tone (sonically matched).

HardwareThe Kerry King Metal Master V2 features a wrap-around, adjustable tailpiece for added sustain and proper intonation. The chrome diecast tuners offer solid tuning, and, like the other hardware, feature a chrome finish.

Epiphone Dove Acoustic Guitar, Ebony Chrome Hardware Review

Epiphone Dove Acoustic Guitar, Ebony Chrome Hardware

I have owned my epiphone Dove for over a year now and to be honest I use it right behind my Martin D-35. Now this is not to say its as good as my Martin, because its not. I own quite a few guitars(much to my wifes displeasure). It has a very good feel to it that I don't get from my other guitars. It is very easy to play does not hurt the fingers and was actually set up pretty well for when I recieved it. You might want to make a few changes to it to help improve the quality. I changed the bridge pins to bone and I am about to change the nut and saddle as well. All 3 are plastic and any change will make for a better sound. Now, keep in mind it will not sound like a $3,500 gibson dove but it will help. Well worth the price and a few extra bucks for the upgrades and you will have a very good guitar.

Epiphone Limited Edition 1956 Les Paul Electric Guitar, Gold Top

I am very surprised and amazed at the quality of the Gold Top Epiphone 56 Les Paul. I own 20 guitars and this one feels "Right" and sounds like a Les Paul should. It replaced a 71 Gibson Gold Top, and frankly, it is lighter, the former was a boat anchor, and plays better. It is possible that I just got lucky, but the last 2 epiphones I bought were also superior to the last Gibson I bought which was an SG. Guess what I play everyday...? the Epiphone, I really don't care what the name on the headstock says nor do I care what Gibson snobs think. I have been playing guitar since 1967, you do the math.

Hagstrom HJ800 Electric Jazz Guitar (Natural Mahogany) Review

Hagstrom HJ800 Electric Jazz Guitar (Natural Mahogany)

I was looking for an archtop for under $1000. I have played friends' Ibanez Artcores and they just feel & sound like student instruments. I was looking into Godins and then came across this instrument at an unbeatable price (lower than list, I think these are not selling well now). All I can say is, WOW! As soon as I opened the case I was impressed with the beauty and quality of the instrument. It feels and sounds fantastic. While I primarily use the neck pickup, the bridge adds a nice bright sound when you want it. I think a lot of people shy away from Hagstrom because they are now assembled in China, but the hardware on this guitar is solid. Not to mention the most comfortable neck I have played in a long time. I found a number of online videos and forums comparing this to Gibson 335's and panning the Hagstrom as second rate, honestly you expect it to sound better than a $3,000 instrument, that's insane. I have no idea why this instrument is not as popular as Epis and Artcores in the same price range. A quality instrument at a low price, buy one before the word gets out

Aria AD-80 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar Review

Aria AD-80 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought my Aria AD-80 on eBay 5 years ago and although I knew I was getting a "nice" guitar by the spec sheet I never imagined what a beautiful, collectable instrument I was actually getting. The guitar was alright out of the box but sounded a little commpressed and flat to me as well as needing the normal new guitar set up. The look was no disappointment at all though! What a beauty! The MOP inlays are sweet without being gaudy and the back and side woods are as nice as any Martin I've ever seen (speaking of Martin this is a D45 copy, I believe, and you would be hard pressed to tell the difference blindfolded). The solid spruce top may be a bit plain but, with the abalone inlay around the sound hole and the entire binding of the guitar, it just sparkles. The gold tuners not only look rich and fit the look of the guitar, but they work perfectly. After about six months of playing the guitar I noticed one day that it was just coming alive and the sound opened up adding bass, treble and a ton of dynamic range! It sounded so good that I have done some upgrades to it because I intend on keeping this one. I had a K & K pickup added (a three transducer system that sounds awesome) and I replaced the original string retainer pins with solid brass "Tone Pins" with abalone inlay that increase the amount of sound the string transfers to the bridge and then the sound board and just add to the good looks. You cannot find another guitar in this price range that can compare! BTW - I paid $550.00 for mine and am not surprised at the price they go for now.

Hagstrom Select Super Swede Electric Guitar (Vintage Sunburst) Review

Hagstrom Select Super Swede Electric Guitar (Vintage Sunburst)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love my Select Super Swede. I was fortunate to have spotted the SSS in Vintage Sunburst when there was just one of them left in the Amazon inventory. Sometimes items go on sale when there is only one or two left, so I took a chance on it, since I had read good reviews on this guitar. Before purchasing, I was torn between a Swede and a Super Swede. My preference was the Super Swede since it had the longer 25.5 inch scale (good for bass note clarity at the expense of slightly higher string tension making bends slightly harder) and it has the coil tap switch which I thought might be more useful than the tone filter that the Swede has. The only reason I got the Select edition was because it came up on sale and ended up much cheaper than the everyday price of the standard Super Swede. I don't think I would have paid the extra $100 for the quilt top and chrome plated plastic knobs, although it is pretty and I can see where some players might really go for it. Other differences include wood binding on the Select instead of 5 ply black & white and uncovered humbuckers (vs. chrome covers on the standard) which I didn't feel strongly about one way or the other. Also, presumably to show off the quilted top, the Select has omitted the LP-like pick guard that the standard Super Swede sports.
When it arrived it was in great shape. No problems during shipping, so I dusted all the foam dust off it, admired the beautiful quilt top, and promptly began tuning it up to pitch. At once I noticed the tuner knobs were a sort of unique Hagstrom-ish shape, which looked quite cool, but were made of a pretty cheap hollow plastic with a thin (and in some cases already flaking off, chrome paint). Of coarse this is only something you will notice if you study the instrument with intent scrutiny, but it is worth noting. Tuning this guitar is a real pleasure though. The 18:1 tuning machines are great, and the graphite composite nut is self lubricating so that even a slight turn on the pegs results in tiny pitch change without having to constantly fight the nut hysteresis. Very nice.
Once up to tune, I played some chords without any amplification. The tone of the unplugged guitar is clear and very melodic. Plugging into my Peavey Classic 30 tube amp resulted in some beautiful blues sounds in all pickup and coil configurations. The single coil tone is sparkly, but a little more mid-rangy than my strat. Some have described it as sounding more like a tele than a strat, and I agree with that description as it seems to have just a hint of country twang in it. The humbucker tones were darker and again very melodic. The pickups are called Custom `58s, implying a vintage sort of output (and tone-wise they are). But with the Alnico V magnets they put out a pretty strong signal so they can still hit your amp pretty good and get some nice breakup. I like these pickups a lot. The pickup selector switch on mine is a little goofy though. A couple of times I flipped it and got no sound out at all. Flicking the switch got it to work again, but I'll have to watch this and see if it gets to be a problem. Playing a few songs made me realize the pure elegance of the neck. The ebony-like fretboard is very fast and smooth and makes this a very easy guitar to play. Bends were buzz free and easy with the 9s this guitar ships with. The stock set-up was good with nice action and intonation right out of the box.
Switching from my amp to Amplitube 3 running on my computer, I tried out a variety of medium and high gain amp models. I was impressed with the clarity of solo notes and power chords. Classic rock and modern metal territory are both in easy grasp of this guitar with a good dirty amp. Amlitube's Mesa/Boogie Triple Rect and Peavey 5150 are my cranked distortion amps of choice, and this guitar drives them beautifully. The humbucker in the bridge position just rips with bristling chunky tone and nice strong pinch harmonics, and the neck pickup sings with a sustain that just goes on and on. Even though I would not classify this as a metal monster's guitar, the combination of beefy tones and fast neck make it fun to shred as long as you're not looking to dive bomb. I have no doubt that the heavy mass and multiple attach points of the fixed bridge (each string has it's own block) contribute to the incredible sustain this guitar has.
In summary, I would say it is a beautiful looking guitar with a few quirks, but when it comes to the important things (tone and playability for me) it stands out head and shoulders above the competition. I can't stop playing the thing. It sounds and feels so good.

My first semi-hollow and I think this looks and plays just as described and advertised. Got mine from Amazon last Friday. Lovely sunburst. Gigged Saturday. Great sound. The other bassist in the band plays an EB MM Stingray. He played my Aria and everyone thought the Aria sounded way better. I would like to give it 5 stars but I think the absence of a hardshell case is a strike against it though. 5 stars for the bass, 4 stars for the package.

This is my first new guitar. Its great and plays really nicely. i did not want to spend a fortune on a guitar and liked the look of this model. I realised that it was a guitar built to a price but i was still very impressed by its playability. I have made a few improvements. I had it professionally set up with a bone saddle and nut and replaced the strings with elixir lights, also replaced the pins with ebony. This whole process cost another $200 but boy was it worth it. Has a soft Martin like sound now with really nice highs. the action is great and I can recommend having any new guitar like this set up professionally with these few changes. Had a friend who plays well and owns a D28 around for tea. He played this guitar all night and was seriously impressed. The extra work has made this guitar sound fantastic and its deffinatly a keeper. Its also incredibly beautiful. With just these few changes has made a mediocre bargain basement laminate a real gem.

It's lighter then i thought and it sounds better then i thought. There is a little fret buzz and it was out of tune. Tuning a floyd Rose takes several tunings before it actually stays in tune. Fender Road Worn '50s Stratocaster Electric Guitar, 2 Tone Sunburst Review

Fender Road Worn '50s Stratocaster Electric Guitar, 2 Tone Sunburst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I work and teach in several music stores and get my hands on a lot of Strats. When I saw the Roadworn strat I was extremely sceptical and could hardly wait to scoff and critisize it.
First I was impressed with it's authentic feeling light weight. When I plugged it in (without knowing what pick-ups it had) I heard a great Strat-y tone. The 10 gauge set of strings (higher than standard shelf-strat gauges but lighter than my usual 11-52 preference) gave it great snap and twang. All the specs seemed as good as any relic I've played and of course the look was there.
The price was my only concern, almost as much as a "real thing" American strat. But it felt and sounded GREAT! I reached an agreement with store and went for it. I've used it on many jobs and really like it. I have no regrets or dissappointments. I own more expensive Strats, including the Custom Shop 1954, but frankly don't want to take them to the rougher gigs. And I can't afford an actual 50's strat, which I would REALLY be scared to take to some of these jobs.
I like the look, feel, fun, and most of all TONE of this strat, and it's not irreplaceable. I was sceptical, but it won me over.

This is THE guitar. Had to wait awhile, as production problems in Tennessee caused delays (for other vendors as well). But Amazon kept me posted, and even gave me the option of canceling if I no longer wanted to wait.... Got this at a great price and delivery was perfect (not a scratch!) AWESOME piece of musical equipment... from delicious 'crunchy' chords and screaming solos when you want to rock out, all the way to smooth, sweet tones when you want to jam with the jazz greats... Heard some (silly) comments from purists about the neck-? (it is slightly elliptical to make it easier to play) MINOR change, for one, and, second, it WORKS! It is a treat to play, sounds fantastic, and stands tall as a worthy addition to the Les Paul legacy. Oh yeah... and it's gorgeous! If you don't have one of these, buy one!!!

Improving a legend isn't easy, but it's happened. Introducing Gibson USA's 2008 Les Paul Standard--an elegant revision of a true classic, with upgrades and new features that make it the best Les Paul Standard ever produced. Based on consumer feedback and a drive to uphold and enhance the legacy of the Les Paul Standard, Gibson USA's 2008 model sets a new guitar benchmark for excellence and achievement. Play the new 2008 Les Paul Standard from Gibson USA and experience the evolution of the greatest electric guitar of all time.

The World's Most Legendary Guitar
New Asymmetrical Neck Profile The 2008 Les Paul Standard debuts Gibson's newest neck profile--an asymmetrical design that makes it one of the most comfortable and playable necks ever offered on any guitar. The new ergonomically-correct profile is tapered, and designed to be thicker on the bass side, and thinner on the treble side, closely outlining the natural form of the hand as it grips the neck. The 2008 Standard necks are machined in Gibson's rough mill using wood shapers to make the initial cuts. Once the rosewood fingerboard gets glued on, the rest--including the final sanding--is done by hand. That means there are no two necks with the exact same dimensions. So while it still has the basic characteristics of its respective profile, each neck will be slightly different, with a distinct but traditional feel.
Chambered Mahogany Body Every new 2008 Les Paul Standard will benefit from Gibson's proven chambering technique, which leaves each guitar with perfect tone, balance, and weight. Prior to gluing the maple cap on top of the mahogany body, the expert craftsmen at Gibson USA carve out carefully mapped-out chambers in the body using a Computer Numeric Controlled (CNC) router. The positioning of the routes was established after careful examination of the resonant characteristics of the Les Paul. Gibson approached this process with the awareness that every change to the formula would have repercussions on the instrument's sound. So, in addition to relieving the stress on a player's back and shoulder, these lighter Gibson guitars also enhance the tone palette in a manner unique only to these guitars. The results are comfortable, lightweight guitars that are acoustically louder, with increased sustain and resonance.
TonePros Locking Tune-o-matic Bridge and Locking Stopbar Tailpiece The Tune-o-matic bridge was the brainchild of legendary Gibson president Ted McCarty in 1954, setting the standard for simplicity and functionality that has never been bettered. The 2008 Les Paul Standard features TonePros locking Nashville Tune-o-matic in a chrome finish, which has saddle adjustment screws on the pickup side, and pre-notched saddles for quick installation. The chrome locking stopbar tailpiece is also from TonePros. These parts come with locking studs designed to secure both components firmly to the body so that there is no lean, yielding a great union between the strings and body which results in excellent tone and sustain.
Pickups: Gibson Burstbucker Pros Gibson's drive to recapture the magic of the original "Patent Applied For" humbucker pickups of the 1950s culminated with the introduction of the Burstbucker line in the early 1990s. In 2002, Gibson followed up this innovative accomplishment with yet another breakthrough in pickup design--the Burstbucker Pro, designed specifically for the new Les Paul Standards. The Burstbucker Pro features an Alnico V magnet (instead of the Alnico II), which offers slightly higher output and allows preamps to be driven a little harder to achieve a more natural break-up. Like all Burstbuckers, the Burstbucker Pro has asymmetrical coils--true to the original PAFs--which supply a more open sound. The Burstbucker Pro Neck is wound slightly less than the original PAFs, while the Burstbucker Pro Bridge is slightly overwound for increased output. The Burstbucker Pro pickups are also wax potted to allow loud volume pressures with minimal feedback.
Revolutionary Plek Set Up The 2008 Les Paul Standard is one of the first models from Gibson USA to utilize the revolutionary Plek machine in setting up the guitar. The Plek is a German-made, computer controlled machine that carefully measures each fret, along with the fingerboard height under each string, and then automatically dresses each fret, virtually eliminating string buzz and greatly improving the overall playability of the guitar. This pioneering process does in minutes what it takes a luthier several hours--sometimes even days--to accomplish. Every fret is accurately aligned, and the guitar is properly intonated, leaving the instrument "Plek'd" and amazingly playable.
Locking Neutrik Jack Neutrik has been making superior electronic interconnection products since 1975, making them the logical choice to supply the performance safeguarding jack in Gibson's 2008 Les Paul Standard. Like many Neutrik products, the jack in the 2008 Les Paul Standard is manufactured from strong, high-grade thermoplastics and housed in a rugged diecast nickel shell. A retention spring inside the jack ensures optimum grip on any guitar cable, thus avoiding the chance of lost connection.
Locking Grover Tuners The 2008 Les Paul Standard is outfitted with locking tuners from Grover, which deliver ease of use through a standard tuner and positive locking mechanism that securely locks each string in place. Simply insert each string through the string hole, turn the dial on the bottom of the tuner to lock the string, and begin tuning. Each string can be tuned to pitch in less than one complete revolution of the post. These Grover machine heads feature completely sealed components with an improved 18:1 tuning ratio.
Gold-Plated, Custom-Made Potentiometers by Bourns The 2008 Les Paul Standard features all newly designed controls, including custom-made, gold-plated potentiometers manufactured by Bourns, one of the industry's leading makers of guitar electronics. These new potentiometers deliver accuracy and high reliability, while giving the Standard '08 a new level of sonic clarity and intensity never before seen in a Les Paul.
New Enlarged Neck Tenon The 2008 Les Paul Standard sports a revolutionary enlarged neck tenon designed by Gibson's team of pioneering engineers. The expanded neck tenon features an innovative interlocking joint that allows the neck to be dropped into the body from the guitar's top side, as opposed to sliding the neck in from the rim. When the glue is added, a solid unyielding bond is created that maximizes the wood to wood contact between the neck and the body, offering increased stability and superb transfer of vibration for enhanced tone, improved sustain, and superior resonance. It is also the largest neck tenon in the history of the Les Paul.

Washburn Idol Series WI64BK Electric Guitar Review

Washburn Idol Series WI64BK Electric Guitar
Average Reviews:

This particular higher-end permutation of the popular Idol series offers very solid features for an instrument at this price point. The Buzz Feiten tuning system--coupled with the 18:1 Grover machine heads-- virtually guarantees perfect intonation and ease of tuning, and the VCC knobs (in place of standard tone controls) has the overall effect of both a tone control and coil splitter, with the zero setting offering sparkling single-coil, Strat-like clarity with the noiselessness of a humbucker. Cranking to 10 produces high-gain, classic humbucker sounds, and experimenting with any in-between combination with either or both of the two VCC knobs can produce a decent replication of virtually any other pickup sound you'd possibly want, from P-90's to lipsticks. The neck is fast and smooth, though a bit narrow for some players.
The only glaring flaw is the lack of good finish workmanship, and trading off stellar performance for cheaper (albeit relatively unimportant) parts. The three-way pickup selector switch on my brand new (at the time)guitar broke off at the tip after about a week (easily replaced for a couple of dollars at the local Guitar Center) and the nut at the output jack worked itself almost completely off in about the same amount of time. Several screws (truss rod cover, pickup mountings and elsewhere) were similarly loose and had to be snugged down
For playability and versatility at this price, you really can't do much better. This thing was an Guitar World Editor's Choice for "Best Guitar under $1000" the year it debuted back in 2004 or 2005. If slightly higher quality hardware had been used and setup finish had been properly done, this guitar would be close to perfect.

Washburn Jazz Series J3TSK Electric Guitar
I found this guitar on Amazon.com and immediately liked the looks of it. I found the description on Amazon to be a little confusing because there were two different descriptions. I finally looked it up on the Washburn web site. When I received the guitar I was pleased to find that it included a pretty descent HS case. When you receive the guitar you will immediately want to change the strings and do your own set up. I had been looking for a guitar made in the USA. The description on Amazon did not state where it was manufactured (China). The description did not list it coming with the HS case. I assumed that it would as that is how it is listed on the Washburn web site. Given the price of the guitar you realize up front that the quality will not be as good as a $1000 guitar. When I received it I was pleasantly surprised. I feel that it would compare nicely to a $1000 guitar.

Gibson 1959 Les Paul Standard VOS Electric Guitar, Faded Tobacco Review

A Gibson Les Paul Standard 1959 VOS in faded tobacco burst??? Got to see one to really appreciate it. I stumbled across one H#@L of a deal on Amazon. Nobody would pay MSRP, but this one is over 8K. Retail, the best I could find anywhere, was $5,699. Amazon had this puppy as an 'out of box item' in a warehouse somewhere and I picked it up for 3K !!! Guitar is not a second, not a blem, just didn't have the truss rod tool and a couple of other pieces of candy. NOT A SINGLE MARK ON THIS BABY!!! I feel like I've hit the jackpot. Anyways, couldn't be more thrilled as it plays like a dream and looks absolutely nostalgic in an awesome display.

Gibson's Les Paul Standard model from 1959 is the most highly acclaimed, widely recognized solid body electric guitar in the entire world, coveted by both players and collectors as the ultimate example of playability, attractiveness and tone among all six-stringed instruments. In an industry filled with imitations and replicas, the iconic 1959 Les Paul Standard simply has no equal.

The most highly acclaimed, widely recognized solid body electric guitar in the entire world.
HistoryNamed after Lester William Polsfuss, aka Les Paul--legendary American jazz guitarist, and true pioneer in the development of recorded music--the Les Paul model guitar became the "Standard" in July 1958 after company president Ted McCarty and his staff decided to add the new designation and forego the guitar's traditional Goldtop finish for a new, brighter finish dubbed Cherry Sunburst, which allowed the natural beauty of the Les Paul Standard's maple top to be showcased. The company was hoping the changes would improve its sales of solid body electric guitars, which had been declining since 1953 when the Gibson shipped 2,245 Les Paul Model guitars.
Unfortunately, sales of the new Les Paul Standard continued to dip, and after shipping only 643 guitars in 1959 and another 635 during the early part of 1960, Gibson once again instituted another redesign of the guitar, abandoning the Les Paul design as we know it today and creating the SG Standard. No one could have imagined, however, that those 1,278 Les Paul Standard guitars--especially the 643 from 1959--would become the most sought after guitars in the world.
Body While the full impact of the 1959 Les Paul Standard was still several years away from being realized, its influence on guitar design was already well underway. Besides its exceptional tone and playability, the 1959 version of the Les Paul Standard was renowned for its two "bookmatched" pieces of maple wood that made up the top of the guitar. While most of the Les Paul Standard tops in 1958 were considered "plain," some of the maple tops in 1959--and into 1960--were "flamed" or "figured," adding a three-dimensional, cosmetic element never before seen on any solid body guitar. The beautiful patterns, however, went largely unnoticed at the time, with Gibson paying no particular attention to selecting wood with distinct grain patterns. Other cosmetic changes on the 1959 Les Paul Standard included a slightly thinner neck profile, a smaller heel, and a change to larger "jumbo"-sized frets, which are still in use today.
Finish The guitar's new Cherry Sunburst finish also saw its first full year of use in 1959, despite problems with the consistency of the red pigment used to paint it--a problem that wasn't corrected until late 1960. This caused the finish on many guitars to fade to some degree of amber, honey or yellow hue, further adding to the beauty and mystique of the instrument.
Famous Players One of the first guitarists to recognize the potential of the 1959 Les Paul Standard was The Rolling Stones' Keith Richards, who obtained a 1959 model in 1964 that had been outfitted with a Bigsby tremolo tailpiece. Around 1966, emerging British guitarist Eric Clapton--himself influenced by the early 1950s Les Paul models played by Freddie King and Hubert Sumlin--also recognized the Les Paul Standard's exceptional tone and playability, and began playing them almost exclusively. Before long, the Les Paul Standards of the late 1950s had found their way into the hands of future guitar legends Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Duane Allman, Peter Green and Michael Bloomfield, among others, eventually helping to reshape the sound of a worldwide musical movement, while forever changing the standard by which all other electric guitars are measured.
Near-perfect Recreation The 1959 Les Paul Standard reissue produced today by Gibson Custom is true to all of the original instrument's features and characteristics, including Gibson's traditional hand-carved "figured" maple top and solid, non-weight relieved mahogany body. The headstock is made from Holly head veneer, as opposed to fiber, just like it was in 1959, and the vintage-style tulip tuners are mounted in a straight line, also as they were on the original. The 24 3/4-inch scale length neck is made from one solid piece of mahogany, and attached to the body using a long neck tenon--one of the Les Paul's more distinguishing characteristics of the 1950s. The neck is topped by a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard outfitted with acrylic trapezoid inlays matching the size and color of the originals. Of course, two of Gibson's legendary Burstbucker pickups deliver all the subtle variations of true, classic "Patent Applied For" humbucker tone by using historically "unmatched" bobbin windings and Alnico II magnets. Other historical appointments include CTS potentiometers, bumble bee capacitors, rolled creme-colored fingerboard binding, single-ply creme-colored binding around the body, and a period-correct thin toggleswitch washer and jackplate. The 1959 Les Paul Standard comes in either a V.O.S. or Gloss finish, and with the standard Gibson Custom case, custom care kit and certificate of authenticity. They are available in Faded Tobacco Burst, Washed Cherry Burst and Iced Tea Burst.

Fernandes Revolver Pro 81 Electric Guitar - Snow White Review

Fernandes Revolver Pro 81 Electric Guitar - Snow White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this Fernandes Revolver Pro 81 mainly for the hyper electronics setup that provides so much sustain. I play in smaller venues at low output levels and the Pro 81 sustain setup really fills out the sound! Have tried it LOUD a few times and it is incredible at high output levels, too. The guitar itself is well-built and much lighter to wear for long periods than you would think. While others say the battery (standard 9V) does not last very long, I have found the battery drain to be modest at best; seems to last a very long time! Of course, I am using Premium batteries in it - high-dollar DuraCell or EverReady. Take the Chinese battery out when you get it; I hear they don't hold up well, and it would be bad if one started leaking all over the components and you didn't realize it until extensive damage was done! The overall workmanship is very good also; it is well-built and very sturdy. The finish is excellent (I have the Snow White finish). And of course, the sound is clear and full - super output!
If I have any reason to find fault, I must say that this particular model is only offered in 2 finishes: Snow White or Jet Black. Many of the other model Fernandes guitars have a huge variety of available choices for finishes, but for whatever reason, the Pro 81 only comes in the two I mentioned. The other thing - and this is not directed at Fernandes - is the fact that my guitar was very shabbily packaged (by Amazon) and not protected or secured for shipping as well as it should have been - for a $700.00 guitar! It appears to have arrived at my home just before the "packaging" gave up, as it literally fell out of both the ineer AND outer boxes before I could even cut the 2 strands of tape semi-holding the outer box lid closed. Thankfully, no damage was done and I am very satisfied with the Pro 81. It plays very well and sounds excellent! Highly recommended to everyone, no matter what style of music you play!

This guitar is as good in tone and playability as a Martin or Taylor (which I have both). For the price it can't be beat. It may need to be tweaked a bit in set-up but its worth the price. Try to buy one you actually can PLAY since a lemon is possible by mail order. But that can happen with a Martin or Taylor as well
