Yamaha CP33 Stage Piano Review

Yamaha CP33 Stage Piano
Average Reviews:

Nice upgrade from my Yamaha P90.
I purchaed this piano for the piano sound and feel. Any additional instruments or features that come with it are a bonus. The acoustic bass, strings and jazz organ sounds are done very well also.
While nothing replaces the feel of a real piano, this keyboard comes very, very close and the lighter touch on the higher keys really takes you there.
I only wish that the power transformer was inside of the piano instead of requiring a wall wart (transformer).
If you want a great piano sound and feel get this keyboard. If you want speakers to go with it as well as some more sounds, look into the CP300, but then you will need to add $1000, 30 more pounds and a deeper frame.

The CP33 is made for the serious musician on-the-go. Sit down with one, and the instrument becomes an extension of your hands and your musical imagination. The authentic piano voices and rich expressiveness come alive at your touch, and the sound is big enough to blast through a full band onstage - yet nuanced enough to work magic in an intimate club.Yamaha's extensive experience in crafting fine acoustic pianos helps us in creating the ultimate digital pianos. Our advanced Graded Hammer Effect (GHE) action gives all keys an authentic resistance that increases from the top register to the lower - just as on an actual acoustic piano. Which means that you can naturally pound out thunderous low notes with your left hand and let the fingers on your right dance and fly with the high notes. In crafting the authentic sound of the CP series, we used meticulously recorded stereo samples of top-quality instruments, taken at various playing strengths, and included subtle elements such as String Resonance, Stereo Sustain, and even Key-Off Samples that capture the felt dampers muting the piano strings - providing the most authentic sounding and finely nuanced acoustic piano voices possible. The CP stage pianos are also master keyboard controllers that give you full command of your gear. Play and control external tone generators. Assign different voices to different keyboard sections and create multi-textured layers of sound. Two instrument zones on the CP33 with panel sliders, let you easily tweak the level of each instrument as you play. You can also freely reassign the sliders and wheels to control other sonic characteristics of your gear, such as sound attack, decay, brightness and filter cutoff. At just under 40 lbs. the CP33 is a very compact and portable yet full size stage piano.

Furman SPB-8C Deluxe Stereo Pedal Board with Hardshell Case, Handle and Wheels, Power Conditioner Review

Furman SPB-8C Deluxe Stereo Pedal Board with Hardshell Case, Handle and Wheels, Power Conditioner

This product is one of the best! I used it before and fell in love!
It has a power conditioner included preventing that sound polution which is so important when you play in different places that might not have the best equipment or have a lot of lights.
It does feel a little heavy but pedals usually are a kinda heavy so that doesnt help. Despite it being heavy, it has a good handle, wheels, and is made out of hard plastic, you can't get lighter than that!
It has an ideal space for a good number of pedals, you don't need to remove the rubber from your pedals ( I saw someone say it in a previous review ). I bought some velcro and pasted it to the bottom of my pedals, adding an awesome grip for moving around and preventing the pedals from flying all over the place when traveling.
It's a great item to protect your investments.

KRK RP8G2 Rokit G2 8In Powered Studio Monitor Ea Review

KRK RP8G2 Rokit G2 8In Powered Studio Monitor Ea
Average Reviews:

Don't expect these to be a smaller version of PA speakers. Studio monitors are quality over quantity. Yes, these are plenty loud for their intended use. The important part is their sound quality. As with any speaker of this quality, proper break-in really does make them sound better. The RP8G2 is a great value choice. Yes, there are better speakers on the market. You will pay a real premium for them, though. It is hard to evaluate speakers just on the published specs. Sound quality is so much more than technical spectral analysis.
These are solidly built, great sounding monitors that are a good value. I can really recommend them.

Click Here to see more reviews about: KRK RP8G2 Rokit G2 8In Powered Studio Monitor Ea

The KRK RokitG2 Series takes value-priced monitors to a new performance level. All of the great stuff that Rokit's have been known for (front-firing bass port, soft-domed tweeter, glass aramid composite yellow cone) are still there, but the G2 Rokit's feature refined voicing and a new curved baffle that looks great, reduces diffraction and provides even better monitoring accuracy.

No Pain With Gain Why compromise gain structure to achieve a comfortable listening level? As musicians and recording people ourselves, we've asked that question too. So each Generation 2 Rokit comes with an Input Volume Control that provides an adjustable gain range from +6dB to -30dB. Just another way the Rokit lets you focus on your mix, and not on compatibility concerns.
Catch a Wave, for a 3D Mix Recessed tweeters may look the same, but they don't perform the same. KRK has designed a superior tweeter wave guide for the Rokit that provides optimal high frequency pattern control and focuses the sound outward, away from the cabinet. More conventional designs direct sound along the plane of the cabinet where waveform interaction can cause phase problems and increased diffraction. KRK knows a properly engineered high frequency wave guide is a critical component to great sound, and one key to our award winning performance.
You've Got Connections At KRK our focus is your mix. But it doesn't stop at creating accurate monitors. We live this stuff and appreciate the need for monitors that not only sound great but work easily into your particular set up. That's why you'll find plenty of input options with your Rokit, sure to accommodate any studio environment. So if it's RCA, Quarter-Inch (balanced/unbalanced) or XLR inputs you require, Rokit has got you covered.
Even More Accurate Than Before We took a great monitor series and made it better. Our engineers and listening panel took the Generation 2 Rokits' speaker voicing to even more accurate levels. What you hear is what you are intended to hear, coloration is not part of the spec. This performance is brought to you by drivers that are custom-designed by our world-class studio monitor engineering team, for clear, low-distortion performance.
Take Control While your Generation 2 Rokit leaves the factory voiced to our demanding specs, KRK also knows that no two rooms "sound" the same. As such, each Rokit comes equipped with a High Frequency Level Control. This feature provides specific adjustment of high frequency output most commonly affected by room acoustics. It's just one extra level of control that KRK gives you to ensure the most accurate mix for your particular room's acoustics.
Don't Be Square, Curves Ahead Our new Rokit looks different, so it can sound better, and in a wider "sweet spot." Traditional rectangular speakers suffer from diffraction as sounds leaving the edge of the cabinet are reflected back into the original sound field, and at different time intervals. This phase distortion creates a "narrow" or boxy" sound. The Generation 2 Rokit series eliminates this issue with radically engineered curved surfaces, so diffraction is virtually eliminated. Simply put, you'll get better sound in a wider area.
Let's Be Up Front Take a look at competitive monitors and you'll find ports on the back of the cabinet. These rear-firing ports tend create bass coupling with walls and corners amplifying low frequency information which will color your mix. The superior design of the KRK Generation 2 Rokit's include front-firing ports, which are just the right shape and taper to reduce port turbulence. You'll appreciate the clean and accurate bass performance, this approach delivers, even at high SPL's.
Power Up! A great sounding monitor doesn't stop with a great cabinet and custom drivers. Our true bi-amplified amplifier system provides discrete low-distortion power for each driver. While our active crossover systems provide smooth and accurate frequency response, and again, accurate diffraction control.

I bought this mixer to be used at small clubs and venues when I don't want to carry loads of stuff and for me it is perfect. The preamps, one knob compressors and effects sound really good, the sweepable mids on the EQ's are nice and the board has a very solid feel to it, for the price of this board you get alot of features.

a very unique sounding ride. i love this ride becouse it doesnt have that flat shaky sound you find amoung most other rides.the sound omits more of a ring to it when played at the highest intensity with alot of after decay time i must add. its also perfect for using somthing to follow if youd preferre that over high hats at any paticular time. i mostly like to practice harder music like metal, wich this cymbol is perfect for. i also like to experiment putting different types of music togetter wich this is also good for becouse i just cant say ive ever heard anthing like this ride cymbol. i consider it one of my best peices on my set. so if your intrested in a new cymbol i recomend checking this one out to see if it matches your paticular taste, but for one thing when you here it you will understand where im coming from.

QSC K8 Powered PA Speaker (8 Inch, 1000 Watts) Review

QSC K8 Powered PA Speaker (8 Inch, 1000 Watts)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I must preface this review by saying that I can't comment on using these powered speakers as a PA system; I bought a pair for my keyboard rig. They replace my old Mackie SRM450s, which I loved, but at 50+lbs each was getting tired of shlepping around (these are 27 lbs each). I don't miss the Mackies at all. The output from these is incredibly loud, crystal clear and punchy. They claim "1000 watts" but what's odd is that they don't give any qualifiers like you usually see ("+/- 3 db, 20 - 20K, @0.1% distortion"), just a plain & simple "1000 watts." Regardless, these speakers have incredible headroom. I've done gigs playing left-hand bass and am completely satisfied. Obviously, with an 8" woofer you will not get the lowest octave of bass. Also, they use a tuned port to extend the low-frequency response and there seems to be a "hump" at around 100 - 200 Hz that I compensate for with EQ.
One characteristic of the K8 is that the smaller woofer gives a wider dispersion angle. On stage, I set them up angled in a bit, so both the stage and audience is covered. Comments from the audience are that they sound great, and the musicians I play with also comment on how they hear me perfectly (this was not the case with the Mackies).
The K8 has two inputs (each of them a "combo" XLR and 1/4" jack) that can be used simultaneously, each with a level control and pass-through; there is also an output that has both inputs mixed. One of the inputs is switchable between mic and line level, the other is line level only. There are some other cool features, like the ability to turn the power light on the front of the speaker to a "limit" indicator - this tells you when the onboard DSP acts to limit the woofer's cone excursion. I've yet to see this light flash, despite playing some punishingly loud gigs!

Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus Amp Review

Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus Amp
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm in heaven. I was playing on a Peavey Classic 30, but the JC-120 blows that amp away. This Amp is the standard to which all amps are measured. It has 120 watts of the sweetest tone to ever make your ears bleed. It's loud and clean! You can actually hear your guitar's true uncolored tone ring through. When I play jazz, I plug straight into the front of the amp with no effects whatsoever, and it's the most beautiful clean tone I've ever had.
The chorus on this thing is legendary too. I can't help but think I've heard this same chorus many times before in studio recordings. That would make sense since I hear this is a studio as well as a stage standard.
The reverb is tops as well. The distortion is a little weak, but I have a Boss GT-10 to handle all my effects needs since I have to play a multitude of different styles. Works good since the amp has a stereo input, and the GT-10 has a stereo output.
The Amp holds up well on the road which is a plus if you have to travel a lot, and the casters are a life saver.
I recommend this amp to anyone playing ANY style of music that wants versatile professional sound. I don't think you can find a better clean tone at any price, and it won't muddy up your effects.
On the down side for some guitarists... If your chops are sloppy this amp is unforgiving. You really can hear everything on it. If you practice clean like you're supposed to, you are in for the tonal treat of your live. Enjoy!

Mackie 1642-VLZ3 16-Ch. Compact Recording/SR Mixer Review

Mackie 1642-VLZ3 16-Ch. Compact Recording/SR Mixer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm not a professional engineer but I have a passion for recording music. I've been recording demos for my own bands and friends' bands on a shoestring budget for over 15 years, on and off. I've been using the smaller Mackie VLZ Pro 1202 since about 2003 mainly for recording to and monitoring Cubase for PC but it has been useful for other applications as well. (It's a dinky but rugged little mixer that squeezes into a backpack, takes some knocking about and still sounds absolutely amazing.)
Lately however I have been doing more live recording, location recording and I am upgrading my home recording setup from spare bedroom to big serious garage conversion and really needed more channels. I needed a mixer that was going to sound really neutral and noise-free with at least 10 respectable mic pre-amps, aux outs for foldback, group channels for drum pre-mixes and 8 direct outputs for recording to my 8-buss Delta soundcard or my Alesis ADAT 8-track recorder (it may be obsolete but it's still brilliant) and which could take any source that I plugged into it. I did my homework (I always spend weeks reading reviews and product specs before I lay out this sort of cash on anything) and found that the 1642 VLZ3 fitted the bill perfectly. Mackie again. (And I managed to find a ex-display bargain!)
When it arrived a few weeks ago I didn't have time to read the manual before my first live location recording job came up. It was no trouble at all to use, very intuitive and I was able to provide foldback and playback to the musicians as well as using the direct outputs to record the 8 individual mic inputs to tape. One thing that I was impressed by was the red overload light on each strip that lets you know if you're driving things too hard. When that red light comes on you better not ignore it!
Again, it is very rugged and despite being heavy it is easy to carry - the light aluminium rim at the front of the desk is actually a hollow metal handle.
I could bang on and on about the sound quality. The low noise floor and the expansive headroom. I cannot fault this mixer at all. My old Mackie VLZ Pro has already lasted over 6 years (including some international flights, a festival, some gigs) and still sounds perfect. Now Mackie say that the VLZ3 series is a major improvement on the VLZ Pro series for all sorts of reasons. I can't recommend this highly enough. This is a serious professional quality mixer for a few hundred bucks. Obviously different people are going to have different criteria and different budgets when it comes to choosing mixers, but I suspect you'd have lay out a hell of a lot more money to get even a small improvement on this sort of quality. It's absolutely perfect for me anyway, I'm a happy bunny.

Rode Podcaster USB Dynamic Microphone Review

Rode Podcaster USB Dynamic Microphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For recording my voice (baritone), it does a great job. For extra warmth that means close-miking, which in turn means not popping your p's, etc. If you hold it close to your mouth but don't directly face it end-on, that's easily done (or get a pop filter). [...].
The microphone electronics are extremely quiet - the audio is sampled at 18 bits.
It comes with a warranty which is easily extended to 10 years for free.
The real-time headphone monitoring is a great idea and works well.
It's a bit heavy (part of being built like a tank), and you need to think a little about how you're going to mount it, since some cheap desktop stands can barely manage it.
Some things to keep in mind are:
1) It likes close-miking (at least for male voices)
2) It is USB-only
3) It is a on the bit large and heavy side.
If those don't bother you, and the price is in your range, then you will probably like it a lot.

Fender Blues Junior Hot Rod Series with Optional Amp Cover- Black Review

Fender Blues Junior Hot Rod Series with Optional Amp Cover- Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
IF you are looking at getting a Blues Junior, you are basically a stay home practice/player, home recorder, or real small gigger.
Most of the great sounding CRUNCH amps are really meant for large gigs like Hiwatt, Marshall and most Orange's.
Only Orange of those makes a nice crunch in a small amp, but it's not cheap either. Almost 800.
If you want a Blue Junior, you've already decided to get a tube amp and one with EL84s for their crunch, and NOT 6L6 and not an amp for it's amazing CLEAN sound, like say the Fender Reverbs.
Bottom line, this is an amazingly affordable and superb sounding amp at all levels of crunch.
I rate it at a 5 because of it's very reasonable price, especially used. I don't know truly if the newer ones since 2001 are as good as the American made ones, so you'll have to check that out. I don't like these reviews that seem to put all Blues Juniors under one review umbrella when they are different makes at different times, so check out the date info and compare them IF you can. Let your ears determine, not a review or persons opinion.
All I can say is I've searched and played amps for a long time now and I like 6L6 tube amps for clean and EL84's for crunch, all tube and for home non-gigging crunch the Blues Junior is the least expensive best sounding way to go.
As for problems, the main one I've heard is that the tubes don't last as long as other amps, that they are setup to be "hotter". I don't know if this is true, but my attitude is: if that's what it takes to make it sound like this, I LIKE it.
Also, don't get caught up with the "MOD" bug. Yes, there are zillion things you can DO to a Blues Junior. My only advice is, should you want to do this to YOUR amp, let it be your SECOND Blues Junior. If you can't afford a second copy, then don't go messing with the first.
People are always whining about how things don't sound like they did in the 50's. Well, they probably don't remember how while an amp might have sounded superb, the recording technology was in it's infancy and so what they 'heard' on records was a pale shadow. So to sound "like" your favorite Fender amp player, I'm very sure you can make this modern baby sound that bad if you set it up just wrong in the right way.
Good luck, and let your OWN ears, in comparison, sell an amp to you over time.

Nice keyboard, nice sound, feels like a real piano and it's got all the keys. I like that it includes a nice, stable music rest, keyboard stand, footswitch and power adaptor.
Lots of features too: fun sounds, (drum, maracas, bongos, etc. plus sound effects like phone, ufo, dog barking, etc)
It has a super metronome which you can adjust the tempo of, set the number of beats per measure, adjust volume, etc.
It records your performance which is nice, so my piano teacher can play something she wants me to learn, record it, then I can replay that when I'm practicing.

DBX DriveRack PX Powered Speaker Optimizer Review

WOW! Think about this thing as a magic wand for your sound system. Even though I only know how to work the wizards, I can already hear the difference. The sound is nice and tight, and I am able to get the bass I love out of my system (2x Mackie SRM450's and a Cerwin Vega CVA-115 sub, second one coming soon!). I started playing around with the compressor and the EQ and I'm amazed at how great my speakers sound. I can't wait to learn how to fully use all the features. I've already told some of my DJ friends to get this. Also, the feedback suppression system on this is great. I DJ weddings and other formal and corporate events. I don't have any complaints so far!

SE Electronics Reflexion Filter Pro Ambience Control Review

SE Electronics Reflexion Filter Pro Ambience Control

In my home studio I record in a Whisper Room, which is a terrific sound booth. However, due to it's relatively small size I did hear a boxy quality especially when working a louder volume. The filter works as claimed and smoothed out the 'rough edges' so to speak - highly reccomended!

The Reflexion Filter envelopes the rear of the microphone to produce a smooth, drier sound and reject unwanted reflections. The Reflexion Filter is perfect for a home studio with out acoustic treatment or a performer that also has to operate the recording device. The Reflexion Filter also works very well on an instrument that requires a dry, accurate sound. SE Electronics Reflexion Filter Features An incredible tool for home studios or for recording in the Control Room Adds that extra polish to your recordings by starting at the source Removes problem ambience without acoustically treating a room Rear of the mic is isolated producing a smooth, drier sound Excellent for live or studio; vocals, instruments, amps and percussion An included variable position, stand clamp assembly allows you to attach the Reflexion Filter to any standard microphone stand. The Reflexion Filter has 6 main layers. Firstly, a strong layer of punched Aluminium which allows sound waves to pass through it, diffused, to a layer of absorptive wool. The sound waves then hit a layer of Aluminium foil which helps dissipate energy and break up the lower frequency wave-forms, and from here they hit an air space kept open by rods passing through the various layers. The air gap acts as an acoustic barrier. Yamaha YDP181 Electronic Piano with Bench ,Rosewood Review

Yamaha YDP181 Electronic Piano with Bench ,Rosewood
Average Reviews:

After comparing many Roland, Casio and Yamaha models, this is the one I settled on and couldn't be happier about it. I played the piano from about age 6 through high school and I wanted to get back into it.
Of all the Roland/Casio/Yamaha models I tested in person, this Yamaha in particular had the best "feel" of a real piano. It lacks some of the electronic/midi compatibility of the Casio AP620, but in terms of the build quality and the feel of a real piano, the YDP-181 is the clear winner.
It is more sturdily built than both the 161 and the 141, and the key action of the 181 is also better than both the 161 and 141. I'd highly recommend spending the few hundred extra dollars if you can afford it.

Generally works well, even over long distances. No particular reason to go for more expensive alternatives.
Be careful about batteries, however; once the battery inside the microphone starts to fail, sound quality drops off dramatically and noisily.

Oh what a beautiful piece of craftsmanship! This mic has it all ,looks, sound just to name a few!I have a Shure SM58,AKG D5 and a Sennheiser E 845 S and none of them compare to this wonderful mic.The sound is crisp and clear,no feed back and you can crank up the power amp and still sounds great! Shure has got a winner in this mic! You can spend (and I have) $120 -$150 for other mics but if you can spend a little extra money and get this mic, this will be the last mic you'll own.Truly a hit at the gigs and performs excellent!Oh did I mention it makes you want to perform better and it makes you sound better!!If you try to sing and can't carry a note this mic won't help you but if you can sing what a wonderful sound you will have!I hope this helps in your decision and Amazon is the place to purchase this fine mic.
